4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20 fiulijn (12179) - Malmö, DENMARK - APR 6, 2011
Courtesy of Beershine Black color; medium sized dark brown head. Light aroma of roasted malt, chocolate, cacao, light alcohol, very light vanilla. Thick and quite viscous mouthfeel; very strong chocolate flavor, lightly smokey, salty; light chili pepper too; tobacco; more liquorice in the end, with warming alcohol. Peculiar, very good, not easy, but bold.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 harrisoni (10948) - Ashford, Kent, ENGLAND - JUL 18, 2010
Bottle at Chris’ Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia tasting. I’ve had this twice now, so thanks to both Puzzl and Ken for allowing me the chance to drink this. Oily coconut. Very decent, but lacks a lot of character. Decent, hides alcohol well. Smooth creamy dark choc and I did have quite a bit of this so I must have liked it, but still doesn’t hit the heights, plus I scored it 3.5 the first time and 3.6 this time so pretty consistant.
4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 Oakes (10941) - Savusavu, FIJI ISLANDS - FEB 20, 2009
UPDATED: APR 6, 2010 Revised rating, bottle Thanks to Diego for this one! Extra black and inky. Very dark head. You aren’t going to see through this. The aroma is crazy - milk chocolate, ancho and alcohol. Big and brash. On the palate, this is a rich imperial stout, very thick, with a great ancho and chocolate accent. Fun stuff.
Original rating, draught at the brewery. Extra black body with a rich dark brown head. Complex aroma - chocolate, tobacco, light ancho and dark fruit. Tastes like beer candy - ancho, lots of dark fruit, rich coffee, intense dark sugars, creamy black malts, cherries. There are so many layers to this it’s scary. A full value champion. 8-5-9-5-18 = 4.5

75cl bottle. Medium brown head that mostly dissipates atop a motor oil black body. Aroma is moderately sweet, rich cocoa, some vanilla, cinnamon, chili pepper. Taste is sweet, cocoa, dark chocolate, some chili pepper, light vanilla. The chili burn is noticeable, and while it builds slightly in intensity, it never overpowers. Sticky full body.
