COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In Mayan mythology, Hun Hunahpu was the father of the Mayan hero twins Hunahpu and Xbalanque. Hun Hunahpu, along with his brother Vucub Hunahpu, was tricked by the Dark Lords of the underworld and slain. Hun Hunahpu’s corpse morphed into a cacao tree, his head becoming a cacao pod, which in typically awesome mythology fashion, spit upon the hand of a young maiden named Xiquic who promptly became pregnant with the hero twins. The twins would ultimately grow up to avenge their father and uncle and defeat the Dark Lords and ascend the heavens to become the moon and sun. We brew Hunahpu’s Imperial Stout once a year and release it only at the brewery. We will continue to do so until the end of the cycle. Released on the second Saturday in March at the brewery.

UPDATED: MAR 1, 2013 A: Deep black with only the slightest hints of light poking through the edges. Not too impressive of a head... tiny khaki cap, with modest retention. Dissolves to a tight ring around the edges. An occasional wisp of lacing left on the glass. S: Roasted malt, bitter chocolate and a bit of vanilla. Nothing unusual and certainly not a fair indication of the flavor just around the bend. T: Bam... this was one of the most unexpected flavor profiles based on the nose... large blasts of bitter dark chocolate, cacao, roasted malts, and vanilla... supplemented with an earthy smoked-woodyness... a little bit of cola... and of course the spicy chilies! Reminded me of Black Tuesday in the sheer monstrosity and complexity of the flavor layering. M: Heavy... dense... with some lively carbonation to balance out... nice prolonged finish O: I really was blown away by the flavors here... I haven’t had much success with CCB beers in the past and was sure that this beer was benefiting from some hype... well, I was pleasantly treated to a delicious beverage... my hats off to CCB for the stones to brew this beast.

Bottle ’14, tasted side by side with Dark Lord and Darkness. Pitch black pour with a small tan. Nose has vanilla, spices, cinnamon and some chocolate. Taste has light roast, some soy sauce, vanilla fudge, toasty nuts and dark dried fruits. My favourite of the three.

Pitch black pour with a finger head of brown Aromatic chili dark cocoa gourmet chocolate bar Poured in a snifter. The palate is thick and flavors of chocolate orange with a mild kick. Intriguing, unique. Goin this bottle solo is a bit much.

Deep black pour with orange tan head. Nose of dark chocolate, roast, cinnamon, vanilla, and coconut. Flavor is excellent. Dark chocolate shake with vanilla and cinnamon sticks. Lightly sweet with lingering cinnamon and trailing faint pepper. Thickish, but unbelievably drinkable.

gramity (1518) - Edmonton, Alberta, CANADA - JAN 22, 2015
Pours as viscous as motor oil with a tan head with ruddy highlights. Smells like vanilla ice cream in a cocoa sauce spiked with red pepper. Dark chocolate, roasted malt, with a tinge of spiciness that hits the side of the tongue. Finishes long with a bite of the pepper with no hint as to the 11% alcohol bill. Loved it - my kind of beer.

2014 release. Opened 7/13/14. Thick black, quarter finger of fast dissipating dark chocolate head. Perfect cinnamon, and a touch of pepper on top of dark chocolate on the nose. One of the best smelling stouts I’ve ever had. Flavor is tons of great cinnamon, with a nice pepper skin/heat. Dark chocolate and roast espresso on the middle of the palate, and a finishing hear. So beautifully smooth, but also complex, and drinkable. A great balance of big flavors. In my top 3 stouts easy.

Bottle shared by adnielsen during Christmas in Vail. Thanks Aaron! Pours a black color with tan head. Brownie, cinnamon, spicy peppers aromas. Spicy, chocolatey, fudge, cinnamon flavors. Some alcohol burn but it works with the spiciness. Fuck yeah

bottle from trade a couple of years ago - aged for 2.5 - 3 years. might have been a shade too long. In addition to the great aromas of spices, wood, ash, chocolate there was a little vinous aroma. nice palate. Taste was ok, but not outstanding; didn’t live up to the hype for me - also didn’t take detailed notes as I drank this 2 weeks ago - would try again, but won’t seek out...
