4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: MAR 1, 2013 A: Deep black with only the slightest hints of light poking through the edges. Not too impressive of a head... tiny khaki cap, with modest retention. Dissolves to a tight ring around the edges. An occasional wisp of lacing left on the glass.
S: Roasted malt, bitter chocolate and a bit of vanilla. Nothing unusual and certainly not a fair indication of the flavor just around the bend.
T: Bam... this was one of the most unexpected flavor profiles based on the nose... large blasts of bitter dark chocolate, cacao, roasted malts, and vanilla... supplemented with an earthy smoked-woodyness... a little bit of cola... and of course the spicy chilies! Reminded me of Black Tuesday in the sheer monstrosity and complexity of the flavor layering.
M: Heavy... dense... with some lively carbonation to balance out... nice prolonged finish
O: I really was blown away by the flavors here... I haven’t had much success with CCB beers in the past and was sure that this beer was benefiting from some hype... well, I was pleasantly treated to a delicious beverage... my hats off to CCB for the stones to brew this beast.

2014 vintage bottle pour at Cigar City. Always good to stumble upon a top 10 beer when your hopes were high, but reality suggested otherwise. No more 2016 left, so the compare game is out. Jet black pour with a rocky brown foam head. Maple, chocolate, oak, smoke, and brown sugar make up quite the complex and intriguing aroma. Flavor is like the best cookie ever made. Thick syrup body, sweet chocolate, vanilla, oats, and a dry, teasing finish. Wife hates it. I LOVE it!

I’m not a huge fan of regular Huna, but I still have to give this 4.3. Much better than regular Abraxas, Mexican cake, and bomb! The best non barrel aged spiced stout.

4.9 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
Aroma: Cacao, cinnamon, vanilla, little touch of chilli peppers, dark chocolate, coffee, roasted malts. Appearance: Pitch-black, tan 1-finger head. Taste: Medium sweet, medium bitter, hint of spiciness and hot from chilli in the background, basically everything from aroma you can also notice in taste. Palate: Full body, creamy slick texture, soft to medium carbonation, smooth, long medium sweet, spicy and chilli hot finish. Overall: Really masterly balanced, delicious, complex, one of the best spiced imperial stouts I have proved so far.
