COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In Mayan mythology, Hun Hunahpu was the father of the Mayan hero twins Hunahpu and Xbalanque. Hun Hunahpu, along with his brother Vucub Hunahpu, was tricked by the Dark Lords of the underworld and slain. Hun Hunahpuís corpse morphed into a cacao tree, his head becoming a cacao pod, which in typically awesome mythology fashion, spit upon the hand of a young maiden named Xiquic who promptly became pregnant with the hero twins. The twins would ultimately grow up to avenge their father and uncle and defeat the Dark Lords and ascend the heavens to become the moon and sun. We brew Hunahpuís Imperial Stout once a year and release it only at the brewery. We will continue to do so until the end of the cycle. Released on the second Saturday in March at the brewery.

UPDATED: MAR 1, 2013 A: Deep black with only the slightest hints of light poking through the edges. Not too impressive of a head... tiny khaki cap, with modest retention. Dissolves to a tight ring around the edges. An occasional wisp of lacing left on the glass. S: Roasted malt, bitter chocolate and a bit of vanilla. Nothing unusual and certainly not a fair indication of the flavor just around the bend. T: Bam... this was one of the most unexpected flavor profiles based on the nose... large blasts of bitter dark chocolate, cacao, roasted malts, and vanilla... supplemented with an earthy smoked-woodyness... a little bit of cola... and of course the spicy chilies! Reminded me of Black Tuesday in the sheer monstrosity and complexity of the flavor layering. M: Heavy... dense... with some lively carbonation to balance out... nice prolonged finish O: I really was blown away by the flavors here... I havenít had much success with CCB beers in the past and was sure that this beer was benefiting from some hype... well, I was pleasantly treated to a delicious beverage... my hats off to CCB for the stones to brew this beast.

To start out the flavor experience it seems a little like a rich creamy dark chocolate milk shake with mild amounts of vanilla, molasses and tasty toastiness. The chili spices are meek and only at the just noticeable level for me. The chili spices could certainly use a bigger presence in the taste as well as the nose. The next sampling a few weeks later showed larger aromatic and flavor notes coming from the chili peppers.

Pitch black ale with a mid-sized, creamy, brown head. Nice retention. The aroma is of chocolate and tobacco with a smidgen of chili spiciness. Full-bodied with a thick, oily mouthfeel and restrained carbonation. Big, singed, chocolate and tobacco flavor. Generous hop and black malt bitterness. Suggestions of ginger and cinnamon.

Sampled at GABF 2014. Black pour with virtually no head. Aroma of coffee and what appears to be cinnamon. Incredible taste of coffee, brown sugar, dark chocolate, and cinnamon. Lingering bitter finish with some warmth. Unique, incredible, and worth the hype.

On tap at GABF 2014. Appearance: slight brown head, black color, Aroma: prune, roast, chocolate, mat and molasses. Palate: full body, oily texture, soft carbonation, light dry finish, Taste: sweet malt into a very nice fruit taste, coming back to a chocolate sweetness and dark chocolate bitter finish. Overall, the smoothness of taste transitions are amazing, the balance is superb, absolutely love this beer! Lives up to all the hype. Maybe my new favorite for the style.

Pours deep dark used motor oil with thin brown head. It has dark chocolate legs nearly staining the glass as I swirl the brew around. It has a moderately strength complex aroma of rich dark chocolate, vanilla, molasses, vegetable smelling hot spices and more chocolate. The taste is full of yummy rich dark chocolate. Even still, if they were to be a little bolder in the flavor profile it would be very interesting to experience. It is really damn good as is.

This yearís release has more chocolate, more cinnamon and more chili warmth... all without going completely overboard... itís the cinnamon thatís grabbing me by the short íní curlies and making me fall in love with this beer all over again. Knocks the bourbon barrel version out of my personal top ten... unless this yearís bourbon barrel version ends up winning its top ten ranking back.***Original rating = 4.5*** DraftÖ This beer rocks!Ö Pitch black ale with a mid-sized, creamy, brown head. Acrid, bitter finish. Another world class big beer from Joey and Wayne!

"iíll start by saying this is a great stout. if it were local and at a reasonable price, iíd get it all the time. itís unique. itís tasty. the head on my wifeís glass did not BUDGE til her glass was at more than a 45 degree angle! that was cool. i do, however, prefer the BASE of this beer (Marshal Zhukovís) to this. The added vanilla, cinnamon, cocoa and peppers took away from the Russian part of it, and while very good, was not as spectacular as the original brew. the peppers only made their presence known upon popping the top, then did not make another appearance. the cocoa, cinnamon, and vanilla were obvious throughout. present, but not overdone, and the body was amazing, as expected. "
