So, what you have here is a high gravity porter brewed with lactose and aged in whiskey barrels. It tastes like catching your favorite song on the radio with hints of the parking meter expiring, but not getting a ticket. It’s good.

Nice dark brown/black with a lot of carb, I can smell the whiskey right off the pour! Smells fantastic. Oak, Vanilla maybe a little ash/char, milk chocolate. Taste follows nose, this is rich and sharp. The Strannahan is well pronounced and is mixing perfectly with this porter. A little tart tang in there as well, but not from an infection. Killer brew! Adam send me more!!!

Pours pitch black with almost no carbonation. Aroma is wood, roasted malt and some great whiskey sweetness. Taste is roasted malt, slight lactic, and just subtle whiskey in the aftertaste. Just how I like it.

Bottle. Poured dark clear brown color with a large frothy brown head that mostly lasted and produced good lacing. Moderate to heavy toasted dark chocolate woody aroma. Medium to full body with a smooth texture with flat carbonation. Medium to heavy complex bourbon sweet flavor with a medium to heavy sweet finish that was long lasting with a small alcohol bite. Standout well balanced barrel brew.

This bottle was acquired in a trade with preismj awhile back. Thanks Matt! This beer pours a medium bodied Milk chocolate brown in color that pools to be more of a dark, dark brown on the verge of black. It has a creamy and soapy beige head that turns into a sticky lacing. The nose features plenty of vanilla bean, creamed coffee, milk chocolate with just a touch of whiskey. The nose is soft and just really well integrated. It’s silky smooth. The flavors feature smooth milk chocolates, cola, vanilla bean, light coffee roast, a touch of bitterness and a mellow whiskey finish. The flavors too are really nice and smooth. They do finish somewhat quickly in the after taste. It drinks medium in body and doesn’t show the abv at all. This is a really nice beer. I’m glad I could try it. I have loved everything that Cigar City has barrel aged, this included.

From notes. Molasses black is the color of the beer itself, with a head that fades to a ring around the edge of the glass. The aroma is rich and full of Stranahan’s. The flavor is full of rich dark chocolate, a little bit of smoke, full roasted malt, and espresso and cream. The Stranahan barrels add a burst of sweet bourbon in the middle. As the sip progresses, most of the flavors fade away, leaving mostly just bitter roasted malt and some espresso. Oak and vanilla contribute some further sweet flavors while drying the mouthfeel out at the end. The finish is slightly dry but still full of flavor. The body is full, sweet, and smooth. The Stranahan’s works so well with the lactose sweetness, creating a very balanced mouthfeel. The carbonation is on the light side of medium, and it really stays out of the way of the flavor of the beer. Overall this is just a fantastic barrel aged porter.
