So, what you have here is an imperial sweet stout aged in cognac barrels. It tastes like finding money in your coat pocket with hints of your bag being the first one out of the carousel at baggage claim. It’s good.

Bottle shared at the 2014 tasting in the Cellar of Moeder Lambic Saint-Gilles. Pours near black with barely any head. Aroma of rich cacao, fudge, some boozy cognac, toffee and light roast. Flavor is heavy sweet. Thick chewy mouthfeel. Full bodied with soft carbonation. Real sweet but excellent!

Bottle from Matt. Thanks! A: Huge chocolate head with surprisingly poor retention. Body is nightmare black and this one has legs to 11. N: Cognac, malted milk-balls, white chocolate, cocoa, cherry, caramel, anise, and some licorice. T: Char, sour cherry, big sweetness. Moderating bitterness, but malt and cognac are front and center. M: Thick, oily, creamy. Alcohol hides. O: Dessert in a glass. Big-sipper that has a pleasant cherry truffle aspect to it. Complex and delicious.

Bottle at home with friends, courtesy of Armin. Thanks ma!. Pour is pitch black with a frothy brown head and decent lacing. Sweet chocolate, anise, leathery, wood, roasted malt, bourbon, toasted caramel, raisins, figs, sweet raisins, and grapes in the aroma. Taste is sweet baker’s chocolate, coffee, vanilla beans, graham crackers, sweet malt, toffee, burnt caramel, brownies, and nutty with a roasted bitter finish. Thick velvety mouthfeel with soft carbonation. Seriously tasty stout!

Bottle thanks to 50belair! Shared with friends. Pours inky black with a small dark black creamy head that lasts and laces well. Aroma is hugely rich, roasty, chocolate, molasses, cognac. Flavor follows, lots of chocolate and cognac, quite sweet, medium bitter. Some astringency on the finish. Full body, creamy mouthfeel. Quite a tasty effort.

Bottle shared by Dave. Wow! Aroma of roast cocoa, chocolate milk, and chocolate cake. Pours thick and black with a medium dark brown head. Taste is sweet chocolate cake, roast cocoa, and heavy cream. Perfect blend of milk chocolate taste, roast coffee, and barrel booziness. This is an absolute delight.

Bottle share at Hampton Inn pre-DLD party. Pour is black, no light getting through, and no head. Aroma is very creamy with notes of lactose, malted milk balls, cocoa powder, and vanilla extract. Flavor brings out more coffee with chocolate, vanilla, and smoke thrown in. A little too cloying for me.

Bottle share at Proof courtesy of scotchzi. Deep opaque black with dark chocolatey head, which held decently. The thickness of this beer makes it have great legs on the glass. Not much lacing though. Heavy dark chocolate arom with some good coffee notes and a great earthy wood with a touch of boozey notes as well. Taste is of very rich malt with a warm booze (cognac?) presence being noticable. I get more coffee on the tongue than in the nose. Slightly silty mouthfeel, very thick body. Yummy!

Bottle: thanks, Mike! Super dark, thick, & black, much like most of the stouts from Cigar City. Super-deep, burnt tan head on top, quickly dissipating into a tiny collar around the black brew. Insanely "thick" aroma - huge & robust. Notes of oak soaked in vanilla & sweet booze... Creamy & milky with lots of cocoa, sweet brandy, mild licorice, more oak, & a faint sense of coffee beans in the back-end. Malty, sweet, boozy, & oaky. Taste is just as huge with notes of lightly bitter & roasted cocoa beans with an underlying creamy sweetness, brown sugar. Black licorice, currants, milky caramel, baker’s chocolate, light oak, & a sweet brandy-like booze to close things out. Some mild espresso, char, & burnt brown sugar in the finish. Overall very sweet, heavy & robust. Would be tough to plow through 750mL solo, but damn this stuff is tasty.

Sampled out of a 750ml bottle at a tasting. Pours black with a tan head. Aroma of roasted malts, a good amount of chocolate, and strong cognac and oak and vanilla. Flavor a great blend of all of these. Thick texture. A really good stout.
