COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Jai Alai India Pale Ale pays tribute to the original extreme sport. Jai Alai, a game native to the Basque region of Spain, is played on a court called a fronton. Jai Alai players attempt to catch a ball using a curved mitt, whilst the ball travels at speeds of up to 188 miles per hour! Proving they have a sense of humor the Spanish dub this game, with its ball traveling at race car speeds, """"the merry game."""" Tampa was once home to a busy Jai Alai fronton but sadly all that remains of Jai Alai in the Tampa Bay area is this India Pale Ale that we brew in tribute to the merry game. The India Pale Ale style of beer has its roots in the strong ales sent from England to thirsty British troops in India during the 18th century. To survive the journey the beers needed more alcohol and more hops (which act as a natural preservative). This “big” brewing practice made India Pale Ale one of the first """"extreme beers"""" and a favorite among the Queens military men in India. Eventually it became a favorite style of the new crop of American brewers seeking more flavor and complexity than mass-market brewers were willing to offer.

Bottle from Total Wine ($2.00). Fare amount of sediment on the bottom. Careful pour yields clear results, slightly amber. Nose is sweet with slight sticky malts and pine, cedar, and citrus bearing hops. well bodied palate. Smooth bitters, leaning away from grapefruit and more into sticky pine, mountain floral bouquets, and refreshing filtered water. On the end is a fare amount of orange, some lemon, but well balanced in that it doesn’t feel too much like a summer ale. really good this one.

First Cigar City brew, and first Ratebeer review courtesy of drowland. 12oz Bottle poured from Refrigerator temp into a Pint Glass. Strong head that stays with the brew through consumption, maybe a slightly darker color than would be expected. Smells delicious, but there is something there that I don’t recognize, I don’t think its a bad thing, tempting me to sip. Not extremely hop forward, very wet to the mouth, almost tastes tropical if that is possible. Please, Sir can I have some more? I feel like it is begging me to take sip after sip. A great IPA from an area not known for great beer, I’m honestly disappointed this is my last bottle. I want more. Now for that Humidor version...

Brooklyn Beer and Soda ($12): Looks very nice with a pretty beige head cascading over a cloudy light amber body. Aroma is of citrusy hops and caramel malts. This is not one of the hoppiest IPAs, but it doesn’t hold back at all either. Bitterness contained mostly in the middle of the sip and doesn’t cloy (like Greenflash IPA). The hops are bitter and have aspects of grapefruit and other citrus. There is a nice malt backbone that gives this beer a slight sweetness. Mouthfeel is creamy and beer is medium bodied. Very good.

Bottle courtesy of Doodler poured a cloudy orange amber with a small lasting amber head. Aromas of carmel, earthiness, orange zest, pine and light pink grapefruit. Palate was medium bodied and smooth with a dry finish. Flavors of carmel, earthiness, pink grapefruit and light pine with a smooth dry lingering bitter finish.

Bottle (thanks to Beerlando, shared with Angeloregon)... Poured a thick, cloudy orange with a white head. Nose was floral with hops and some sweet earthy tones. Some sweetness upfront to balance that hops. A tad bit cloying. The hops were floral and citrusy with a zesty, black pepper spice. Mango and other fruity/estery ale yeast qualities with a hoppy finish.

Pours hazy orange with nice thick white head, aroma is big pine and resinous hops, touch of spicy hops with biscuit undertones. Taste up front is big pine and resin, going into floral and spicy hops, a bit of sweet malt with caramel finishing nice and bitter. Excellent IPA, full bodied, tasty, and bitter.

Poured from a 12 ounce bottle into a pint glass. Appearance: Pours a golden caramel brown with a 2-3 finger foamy off-white head. Nice head retention. Excellent lacing throughout. Smell: Sweet floral hops with a hint of citrus. Taste: Sweet citrus up front followed by spice and malt in the middle and grapefruit/lemon zest bitterness with just a hint of alcohol at the finish. Aftertaste is bitter hops with little bit of sweetness. Excellent balance of malt/hops and sweetness/bitterness. Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied with a good amount of carbonation. Drinkability: Very high drinkability. It goes down smooth for a beer with a slightly elevated ABV. Overall: Great IPA. I would recommend this to anyone.

Trade bottle from Dosbeerigos. Pours a cloudy golden color with tiny bubbly white head that quickly dissipates. Aroma is an onslaught of citrus and grapefruit peels. Taste is semi sweet with a very well balanced bitterness with the malts. Awesome IPA.
