Jai Alai India Pale Ale pays tribute to the original extreme sport. Jai Alai, a game native to the Basque region of Spain, is played on a court called a fronton. Jai Alai players attempt to catch a ball using a curved mitt, whilst the ball travels at speeds of up to 188 miles per hour! Proving they have a sense of humor the Spanish dub this game, with its ball traveling at race car speeds, """"the merry game."""" Tampa was once home to a busy Jai Alai fronton but sadly all that remains of Jai Alai in the Tampa Bay area is this India Pale Ale that we brew in tribute to the merry game. The India Pale Ale style of beer has its roots in the strong ales sent from England to thirsty British troops in India during the 18th century. To survive the journey the beers needed more alcohol and more hops (which act as a natural preservative). This “big” brewing practice made India Pale Ale one of the first """"extreme beers"""" and a favorite among the Queens military men in India. Eventually it became a favorite style of the new crop of American brewers seeking more flavor and complexity than mass-market brewers were willing to offer.

13,14,13,14,9,13 - 13,10

This review is a bit hazy. Had the pleasure of finally trying this beer at a bar in Key West. On draft in a pint glass. Appearance-Hazy orange with a solid white head. Started off at 2 inches and shrank to coat the top of the beer. Aroma-Lots of fruit. Apricot, pineapple, mango, peach. Some resin. Very bright and fresh. Taste- Super juicy. Tropical fruits as well as the fruits mentioned in the aroma. Mild resin flavors and the caramel malt is very nice. Palate- Easy to drink. It goes down smooth and leaves you wanting more. Somewhat sticky mouthfeel and very quenching. Overall-This beer is awesome. Top 5 all time IPA for me easily. I wish Cigar City would distribute to the Chicago area.

Jai Alai - Cigar city brewing American IPA 7.5% ABV 70 IBU APPEARANCE: Pours an attractive deep golden orange, with a nice creamy eggshell colored head that really stuck around. Finally settled into a nice thin halo that left some really great lacing. AROMA: The smell reminds me of my bar ha! Lots of fresh cut citrus fruit and fresh squeezed juices. Even has that piney/woody aroma that my bar has with the huge wood bar top and shelves. Nice amount of malty sweetness that rounds out the bouquet. TASTE: Really follows the nose, like biting into a pieces of toasted bread smothered with a tropical fruit marmalade. Nice amount of piney hop bitterness that I really enjoy. Slight earthy, floral undertone that brings it all together on the backend. MOUTHFEEL: Medium body and Medium carbonation. Nice creaminess that still delivers a slightly sticky feel. Great long tingly bitter finish. OVERALL: I've had Jai Alai once before and didn't like it at all. Had a odd fish oil, omega 6 pill thing going on. Really glad I ended up giving this another try. I am guessing I had a bad can first time around. I thought this was an outstanding ipa really enjoyed the Caribbean fruit influence they have going on. RATING: 4.2/5 Zombie Heads! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours a welcoming amber/orange with glimpses of that lighter cantoloupe-y hue. Aroma is juicy fruit and dank, resinous hops. Has a pretty mellow taffy and honey quality. Musty hops and an assertive soil and light caramel malt backbone define the flavor profile of this beer. Perfect amount of bitterness that hits you up front but doesn’t linger.I’m able to draw a little more fruit out of the hops with each passing sip. Lives up to its billing as an exemplary IPA.

355ml bottle from Cigar City in Tampa, Florida. Golden orange in colour with a long lasting off-white coloured head, good lacing. The aroma is quite hoppy, oranges, pine, grapefruit, icing sugar sweetness. The flavour is moderately bitter, lots of citrus hops, orange zest, some pine, wood, floral, caramel sweetness. Moderately bitter mouthfeel, medium body, high carbonation. Finishes long, quite bitter, lots of citrus, chewy.A very nice IPA. Quite chewy and floral but at the same time has plenty of citrus hops. Quite good.
