Jai Alai India Pale Ale pays tribute to the original extreme sport. Jai Alai, a game native to the Basque region of Spain, is played on a court called a fronton. Jai Alai players attempt to catch a ball using a curved mitt, whilst the ball travels at speeds of up to 188 miles per hour! Proving they have a sense of humor the Spanish dub this game, with its ball traveling at race car speeds, """"the merry game."""" Tampa was once home to a busy Jai Alai fronton but sadly all that remains of Jai Alai in the Tampa Bay area is this India Pale Ale that we brew in tribute to the merry game. The India Pale Ale style of beer has its roots in the strong ales sent from England to thirsty British troops in India during the 18th century. To survive the journey the beers needed more alcohol and more hops (which act as a natural preservative). This “big” brewing practice made India Pale Ale one of the first """"extreme beers"""" and a favorite among the Queens military men in India. Eventually it became a favorite style of the new crop of American brewers seeking more flavor and complexity than mass-market brewers were willing to offer.

UPDATED: MAR 18, 2016 Draft pour at LR in Boynton Beach. Pours hazy amber with ample white head. Aroma is fruity, mostly citrus. Initial taste is bitter citrus (hops & grapefruit), then the fullness of grapefruit, pine and tar hit the palate with a pleasant bite. Excellent IPA.

Pours an ideal amber with lasting off-white head. Aroma is complex, heavy and rich with honey, crisp with mango and pine sap. This was one month old, unrefrigerated at Target. On tap I suspect it would be even better. Very nice.

can @ a friend’s house. Smelled great! - like a spiked Tangerine punch at a wedding. Looked like diseased urine. Tastes like someone squeezed the juice from a pine cone and added some tangerine zest. Palate was even worse! Aftertaste was citrus-turpentine. Wouldn’t serve this to my worst enemy. Absolute worthless piss!

Six pack brought back from Atlanta. Loving this IPA right now. Pours a rich orange with a nice white head. Tons of flavor and well balanced- pine/ resin/ orange/ mango. Feels like a meal in a glass. Appropriately big mouthfeel and ABV. Super solid IPA.

Can. Pours clear amber gold with nice off white head and lacing. Nose is sweet tropical, melon and dough. Taste is similar with some dry bitterness. Great.

2/3/16 batch. Golden honey, syrupy, the bubbles seem to rise a little slower. Nose is ruby grapefruit, pine. Palate is resin heavy, tart, sticky on the lips. Dry towards the end with a little wang towards the back of the tongue.

Direkt aus der Dose genossen. Großartig!! Toller Geruch. Tropisch, nicht zu viel! Schön malzig, betont aber nicht zu viel. Extrem ausgewogen. Geschmacklich das gleiche Bild! Relativ viel Kohlensäure. Im Abgang nicht süß, eher herb. Perfekt für heiße Tage! Sollte man probiert haben! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On tap, poured into a pint glass. The aroma is a big, bright citrus with tropical notes and a pine undertone. The appearance is clear and oily with a rich gold hue. The foamy, sudsy white head keeps an abundant retention and great lace. The taste is a high sweet that’s cut nicely by a medium high bitter. The texture is oily with a soft fuzz and medium body. Flavors of tropical fruit and bread are most noted with some herb / pine and a finish of pine and mild grapefruit and an aftertaste of dry, clean pine.

I love this beer! I discovered it in Florida over Christmas, and then found it in Virginia. I was thrilled; it is bitter and crisp and deelicicious! Highly recommended! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Canned 11/11/15, drank on 02/14/16 -- three months old, so I will update when I get the chance to try this fresh. This was a big surprise and a pretty big letdown. There was no hop presence left, leaving a beer that had a lot of malt, some heavy, molasses-y sweetness, and a touch of off-flavor esters. Malty mess.
