Jai Alai India Pale Ale pays tribute to the original extreme sport. Jai Alai, a game native to the Basque region of Spain, is played on a court called a fronton. Jai Alai players attempt to catch a ball using a curved mitt, whilst the ball travels at speeds of up to 188 miles per hour! Proving they have a sense of humor the Spanish dub this game, with its ball traveling at race car speeds, """"the merry game."""" Tampa was once home to a busy Jai Alai fronton but sadly all that remains of Jai Alai in the Tampa Bay area is this India Pale Ale that we brew in tribute to the merry game. The India Pale Ale style of beer has its roots in the strong ales sent from England to thirsty British troops in India during the 18th century. To survive the journey the beers needed more alcohol and more hops (which act as a natural preservative). This “big” brewing practice made India Pale Ale one of the first """"extreme beers"""" and a favorite among the Queens military men in India. Eventually it became a favorite style of the new crop of American brewers seeking more flavor and complexity than mass-market brewers were willing to offer.

12 fl oz can from Mikkeller webshop. Orange amber colour, white foam head leaving alittle lacing and aroma of mango, citrus, hoppy. Taste is malt caramel balanced with sweet tropical fruit, orange, grapefruit, pine, hop resin bitterness. Oily mouthfeel, medium bodied, soft carbonation, dry hoppy bitter finish. Very drinkable IPA.

In bottle at Bahama Breeze offers a thin bodied orange pour with a one finger mushy cap. Nose pops hop & coniferous. Squeezed orange & grapefruit pulp on the tongue. A big & bold IPA, with a nice hoppy edge. My old man cringed when he took a sip. I think this a fantastic glass of hop juice.

Beer in can isn’t a good sign, but this time it is different. It’s a good IPA, not too strong and with some zest of oranges. But it is lacking of gas, probably because of the can.

Can from French e-shop. Orange to light amber, very clear with small to medium white head, lasting, lacing. Aroma is intense, pineapple, citrus, caramel sweetness, very fruity-hoppy. Taste is caramel sweetness, citrus, resiny-piny, grapefruit, fruity, very very good. Aftertaste is malty sweetness, salivating and just a tiny bit hoppy. An amazing APA, intense aroma and taste, I wouldn’t categorize it as an IPA.

One of the most balanced ipa i’ve ever tryed. Some malt sweetness, maybe too much caramell but orange peal, grapefruit, mango and fruit of passion. Light body, thin texiture. So good

Can in Florida. Pours Amber with a white head. Pineapple, trop fruit aroma. Medium body, medium carbonation. Pretty sweet, with sticky caramel, lemon, pine, grapefruit, light dank hops, decent dryness... It's good, though a touch sweet initially. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
