COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Jai Alai India Pale Ale pays tribute to the original extreme sport. Jai Alai, a game native to the Basque region of Spain, is played on a court called a fronton. Jai Alai players attempt to catch a ball using a curved mitt, whilst the ball travels at speeds of up to 188 miles per hour! Proving they have a sense of humor the Spanish dub this game, with its ball traveling at race car speeds, """"the merry game."""" Tampa was once home to a busy Jai Alai fronton but sadly all that remains of Jai Alai in the Tampa Bay area is this India Pale Ale that we brew in tribute to the merry game. The India Pale Ale style of beer has its roots in the strong ales sent from England to thirsty British troops in India during the 18th century. To survive the journey the beers needed more alcohol and more hops (which act as a natural preservative). This “big” brewing practice made India Pale Ale one of the first """"extreme beers"""" and a favorite among the Queens military men in India. Eventually it became a favorite style of the new crop of American brewers seeking more flavor and complexity than mass-market brewers were willing to offer.

0,33 can consumed in Kosovo, purchased from the Hoppy Imports guys based in Thessaloniki-Greece. The can says that the beer was canned 5 months ago, I have no great expectations then. Pours hazy orange, medium white foam leaving lacing and residual traces on the surface. Nose: peach, tropical accent, amber malts calling in the background (!). Mouth: a bit below the expectations given by the average score here, perhaps due to the lack of freshness. Sweet notes and caramel malts are (sadly) there, among a quite anonymous body. The lively carbonation and a bitter grassy (and refreshing) end put this beer in an upper average position. I am quite sure that from the source it gives its best.

Can from trade, cheers thrashD. Pale gold, clear, small head. Blended tropical juice, lots of mango on the aroma. Very oily on the palate, broken by medium-to-heavy carbonation. Flavour is big concentrated pineapple juice and fresh pineapple chunks, intense fruity hop. Finishes with a smooth bitterness. Remarkably drinkable.

(Cigar City Jai Alai India Pale Ale) Can 355 ml at home, canned on September 2nd ’14, served into a tulip glass. ABV 7.5% Clear body, deep golden orange in colour, with a good sized and thick, white head on top. Very good retention, it leaves light lacing behind. Nice fruity aroma, lots of tangerine, orange peel, citrus, grapefruit. Taste follows, again plenty of tangerine and orange peel, especially on the finish, light caramel malts, citrus, little mango, passion fruit, great! Medium thin body, carbonation on the high side. Great IPA!

Appearance: clear orange, with amber notes and a creamy light tan head which left lots of lace. Aroma: big citrus, with grapefruit and orange zest, some pineapple and mango, maybe passion fruit; under all that is a bit of graham cracker. Taste: as the aroma indicates, with the fruity hop notes dominating, but with a firm graham cracker/brown bread malt base. Finish: lasting, dry, and with medium bitterness; palate is nicely balanced, giving heft without being heavy. Notes: A darn good IPA. Seems very similar to the Bells Two Hearted Ale, in color, appearance, aroma, and somewhat in flavor, but with a slightly lighter palate. Can from Knightly Spirits in Orlando, Florida.

Poured in a teku glass from a can. Amber brown with a generous head Very subtle nose of pineapple and straw. That palate shows a sharp biting pineapple tartness that morphs into a crisp bitterness. Very good and apparent malt back bone to support the bitterness. Best fresh and cold.

Tasted from a 12oz. can. It poured a slightly hazy amber hue with a frothy orange head and streaky lacing. A sweet mango-citrushopped aroma with a tasty well hopped citrus malt taste. An enjoyable little local number on this FL trip. 🎉HAPPY 2015!🍺
