COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Jai Alai India Pale Ale pays tribute to the original extreme sport. Jai Alai, a game native to the Basque region of Spain, is played on a court called a fronton. Jai Alai players attempt to catch a ball using a curved mitt, whilst the ball travels at speeds of up to 188 miles per hour! Proving they have a sense of humor the Spanish dub this game, with its ball traveling at race car speeds, """"the merry game."""" Tampa was once home to a busy Jai Alai fronton but sadly all that remains of Jai Alai in the Tampa Bay area is this India Pale Ale that we brew in tribute to the merry game. The India Pale Ale style of beer has its roots in the strong ales sent from England to thirsty British troops in India during the 18th century. To survive the journey the beers needed more alcohol and more hops (which act as a natural preservative). This ďbigĒ brewing practice made India Pale Ale one of the first """"extreme beers"""" and a favorite among the Queens military men in India. Eventually it became a favorite style of the new crop of American brewers seeking more flavor and complexity than mass-market brewers were willing to offer.

Appearance is classic IPA with a chestnut hue and creamy head. Gentle citrus aroma, nothing overbearing. A well-balanced IPA with uniform flavors of hops and malts, with hints of vanilla and biscuits. Solid effort, but as a Minnesota-based drinker, the bar is raised pretty high for me, and this beverage didnít seem to have the same water quality as Iím used to. I will definitely purchase it again the next time I visit the Sunshine State, however.

Amber, almost chestnut beer with a standing two-finger head. Citrus hoppy scent with fruity and medicinal notes. Rich, complex taste. Creamy and vanilla notes, with a rich sweetness, and a strong citrus hop taste. The hop gives a good bit to the other sweet flavors. A unique beer that is ill-served by calling it an IPA. Itís more than that.

Reviewed from notes. Pours a moderate copper color. White head that starts a few fingers high and has pretty good retention. Nose is quite hoppy with pine and citrus taking the front. Taste is strong hops along with a light bit of malt in the background. Good dry, resinous mouthfeel with superior drinkability. Serving type: on-tap Reviewed on: 11-08-2010

12 ounce bottle purchased at American Spirits in St. Pete. Very herbal hop notes with some earthy, leafy hops and a little bit of fruitiness. Perhaps some pineapple? Pretty transparent copper color with an off white head that is medium in size. Starts with a good deal of herbal hoppiness, before this becomes toasted and a bit biscuity with god chewiness present. Nice, husky malt body. FInishes with more herbal, and a bit of piney hop bitterness. Refreshing, and well-balanced.

BREW FEST 2011! Loved this one. Iíve skipped out on this one for so long because it is so easy to find around here (luckily). I liked this one a lot. All the good qualities of an excellent IPA: Hoppy, citrusy, pine tree flavor, and character. Good stuff. Get this if you want to try a great IPA.

On tap at Caponeís in Norristown, PA. Golden brown pour, with smallish head, but some decent lacing. Floral hops and caramel in the nose. Complex hop flavor with floral Centennial like hops as the backbone but with a tropical citrusy intrusion that was welcome, over a caramel malt base.. Grainy, chewy and rough (in a wonderful way) in the mouthfeel. My first Cigar City brew...I really, really liked it. Excellent.

Nice, fairly big floral hop aroma with lesser citrus notes. Smells like a good bit of sweet malts too. Taste - it is on the maltier side as IPAs go, but pretty hoppy as well - caramelized orange pith and carrot cake. More like a 1.5x IPA if not a double IPA.

Copper pour with a medium head. Aroma is caramel malt, orange citrus and pine. Flavor is aggressively hopped, pine mostly. Biscuity and caramel malt, hint of vanilla?

12 oz bottle pours a cloudy amber with a white fluffy head. Aromas of citrus, grapefruit and pine. Oily mouthfeel and medium bodied, a very good IPA
