Jai Alai India Pale Ale pays tribute to the original extreme sport. Jai Alai, a game native to the Basque region of Spain, is played on a court called a fronton. Jai Alai players attempt to catch a ball using a curved mitt, whilst the ball travels at speeds of up to 188 miles per hour! Proving they have a sense of humor the Spanish dub this game, with its ball traveling at race car speeds, """"the merry game."""" Tampa was once home to a busy Jai Alai fronton but sadly all that remains of Jai Alai in the Tampa Bay area is this India Pale Ale that we brew in tribute to the merry game. The India Pale Ale style of beer has its roots in the strong ales sent from England to thirsty British troops in India during the 18th century. To survive the journey the beers needed more alcohol and more hops (which act as a natural preservative). This “big” brewing practice made India Pale Ale one of the first """"extreme beers"""" and a favorite among the Queens military men in India. Eventually it became a favorite style of the new crop of American brewers seeking more flavor and complexity than mass-market brewers were willing to offer.

seriously my favorite IPA ever. taste, quality, smell, pairs well with pretty much everything. i can sip it or heartily drink this. i also love that it is not lacking on alcohol content but isnt overly strong either. the price is very reasonable as well. i honestly have no negative feedback except to make it more available in cities other than Tampa (see below). i live in Tampa, FL so I can visit the brewery and even buy a six pack from the gas station. My suggestion is to make this more readily available on the west coast as I was not ever able to acquire it when I was in California.

Flavor is sweet, caramel, citrus, tangerines. Finish is mild grapefruit bitter. Alcohol is well covered. Overall: nice, but would like to rerate fresher sample.

Hazy orange pour. Medium carbonation. Soft aromas of pine, hops, malt and some caramel. Nice viscosity but pouring from a can is a bit of a downfall.

Pours a hazy amber from the tap. A delicious piney hoppiness flavor, without hitting you over the head.

This is a beautiful beer, rich yet very flavorful, a great beer for grilling steaks on a 80 degree day. This sets the standard for me now, hard to beat this beer.

Trade from UDBeernut. 12 ounce can. Pours a rich amber, with good, long lasting tan head. Aroma of pine and hops. Taste is hoppy and rich, well balanced. This is a very nice IPA. Thumbs up.

Clear orange, beige head. Nose is pine, lots of fruity sweetness, toasty malt, hops. Flavor is lots of malt and caramel, sweet fruit, some herbal piney hops in the finish. A sweeter, not as bitter IPA. Shared by martjoobolut, thanks!

Fresh can. Aroma of tropical fruit, citrus, apricot, melon, orange. Strong apricot taste, some orange, nice malt backbone. Medium bodied and smooth, some sweetness. Wouldn’t characterize this IPA as bitter at all in comparison to the other top American-style IPAs. Very well done, but too much sweet apricot for my tastes.

Clear orange color, big, great head with nice lacing. Sweet, malty aroma with lot of fruits (grapefruit, mango, pineapple, white fruits) and some caramel. Smooth, sweet taste with sweet fruits, some herbs and grass. In my opinion bitterness is to low. Very drinkable
