COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Jai Alai India Pale Ale pays tribute to the original extreme sport. Jai Alai, a game native to the Basque region of Spain, is played on a court called a fronton. Jai Alai players attempt to catch a ball using a curved mitt, whilst the ball travels at speeds of up to 188 miles per hour! Proving they have a sense of humor the Spanish dub this game, with its ball traveling at race car speeds, """"the merry game."""" Tampa was once home to a busy Jai Alai fronton but sadly all that remains of Jai Alai in the Tampa Bay area is this India Pale Ale that we brew in tribute to the merry game. The India Pale Ale style of beer has its roots in the strong ales sent from England to thirsty British troops in India during the 18th century. To survive the journey the beers needed more alcohol and more hops (which act as a natural preservative). This “big” brewing practice made India Pale Ale one of the first """"extreme beers"""" and a favorite among the Queens military men in India. Eventually it became a favorite style of the new crop of American brewers seeking more flavor and complexity than mass-market brewers were willing to offer.

Pours a clear amber with a thick, white head that settles into a long-lingering cap. Good lacing. Aroma of pine, tropical fruit, and fresh cut grass. Big, juicy hops hit the front of the tongue with lots of pineapple and mango. Finishes with a bitter hop kick. Sweet malt balances all this bitterness quite nicely. Medium bodied with decent carbonation. Overall, an extremely well crafted IPA. Great job Cigar City. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Clear light orange beer with a nice white head. Smells hoppy, citrusy, some pine, very fine malt aroma. No off smells. tastes bitter and hoppy, piny. Leaves a fine bitter palate that lingers on. Mouthfeel is full and non alcoholic. Really fine ipa!

Fresh 12 oz can, thanks to Homer. Pours hazy orange amber with good head, nice lacing and retention. Aroma: initial impression of soft gentle tropical citrus with a moderately sweet backdrop. Becomes more resinous and earthy with time. Taste: moderate caramel sweetness followed by big piney bitterness that lasts and lasts. Alcohol flavor noticeable. Palate: medium+ body, creamy texture, average carbonation. Overall: In some ways sweet and gentle, in other ways strong and bitter, but all-in-all a solid IPA.

12 ounce can into tulip glass, canned on 11/4/2014. Pours slightly hazy/cloudy bright orange color with a 2 finger dense and rocky off white head with great retention that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a light amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, lemon zest, orange peel, peach, mango, floral, grass, pine, caramel, bread, and floral/grassy earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of juicy citrus/tropical hops and moderate malt sweetness; with great strength. Taste of big grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, lemon zest, orange peel, peach, mango, floral, grass, pine, caramel, bread, and floral/grassy earthiness. Moderate amount of pine/citrus peel bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, lemon zest, orange peel, floral, grass, pine, caramel, bread, and floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Fantastic complexity and balance of big juicy citrus/tropical hops and moderate dark/bready malt sweetness; with a great malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, fairly crisp, and lightly creamy/sticky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is an awesome IPA. All around great complexity and balance of juicy citrus/tropical hops and moderate dark malt sweetness; and very smooth and fairly crisp to drink for the ABV. A highly enjoyable offering.

Fruity aroma with citrus and a little pine. Flavor has lots of bitter, tropical fruit, with a little underlying malt and fruit sweetness. Bitter, fruity finish. Really, really good.

Just noticed that I have somehow neglected to rate this beer! My last one was pretty recently at Croxley’s in Farmingdale, but I have had this many times. I’ll have to revisit with a real-time rate, but it has been a favorite for years. Top notch, well made, and extrememly drinkable.

Can from ABC (for a dollar!?). Pours a beautiful hazy orange with a perfect, frothy white head that stays. Lacing is wonderful as well. Aroma is a glorious amalgam of pine, citrus, and floral notes. Flavor is mostly sweet with a little bitterness on the way down and thereafter. Light body, creamy feel. An all time favorite. Acquire. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
