Jai Alai India Pale Ale pays tribute to the original extreme sport. Jai Alai, a game native to the Basque region of Spain, is played on a court called a fronton. Jai Alai players attempt to catch a ball using a curved mitt, whilst the ball travels at speeds of up to 188 miles per hour! Proving they have a sense of humor the Spanish dub this game, with its ball traveling at race car speeds, """"the merry game."""" Tampa was once home to a busy Jai Alai fronton but sadly all that remains of Jai Alai in the Tampa Bay area is this India Pale Ale that we brew in tribute to the merry game. The India Pale Ale style of beer has its roots in the strong ales sent from England to thirsty British troops in India during the 18th century. To survive the journey the beers needed more alcohol and more hops (which act as a natural preservative). This “big” brewing practice made India Pale Ale one of the first """"extreme beers"""" and a favorite among the Queens military men in India. Eventually it became a favorite style of the new crop of American brewers seeking more flavor and complexity than mass-market brewers were willing to offer.

Decent retention and no lacing. Smells of citrus fruits and hops. Tastes of sweet malt and citrus fruits. Kind of a stale aftertaste. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Can. A nicely complex aroma combining tropical fruits, citrus and pine notes. Flavour is hoppy but not overpowering, well balanced. A top-notch IPA.

golden to orange colour, 1 inch. dense off-white head; aroma and taste of overripe tropical fruits, pine resin, peach, and some caramel notes; amazing IPA from a metal can - ok, it may have importance, whether a beer is filled into metal can, or a glass, but it is excellent despite the fact that it is a canned beer...

Nice robust orange pour, mostly clear, effervescent with an inch of fluffy off-white head. Juicy hop nose: tropical fruits like pineapple, papaya, juicy grapefruit and orange too, hints of lemon, apricot and fresh peach. Average carbonation, mouthfeel slightly oily, crisp finish. Smooth almost subtle taste. Flavors of orange, grapefruit, and a little bit of pine and rind, kind of resinous. Very smooth, un-bitter IPA with a bouquet of flavors all its own. Definitely a stand out.

I couldn’t get enough of this beer on my last trip to Florida. Poured a 12 oz can into a small mug. Pours a hazy golden orange with a foamy white head that laces as you drink it down. Love the head on this beer. Aromas of lemon and orange citrus, floral, finished by fresh hops. Flavors of pine, grapefruit, bitter hop oils, and sweet hibiscus. Light body, medium carbonation, effervescence continously bubbling to the top. This is what an IPA should be, hoppy bitterness.

Persistent 2-finger light fawn-coloured head, near clear amber body, carpets and crocheted fields inside the mug. Aroma of lemon, pine n resin, ashy but sweet malts, floral freshness, very inviting. Taste is resin, lemon, roasted malts, hazelnut hints, barbecue, citrus peel. Well bodied, fine decent carbonation, really nice on palate. Finishes on strong hops, resin, apricot notes, or maybe faint peaches, more resiny malts to the end. Lingering. At final end somewhat warming. Solid IPA. 355 ml. can sampled @ Pure Apricot Tasting. Thanks! Bottled on 08/08/2014 so about 1 month old. Pours typical amber, fading off-white bubbles head. Thick sticky resin nose with touch caramel, lots of bitter pine / hop resin. Taste is sweet sticky caramel leading into oodles of bitter resin, brown sugar, light bitter herbal hop note, bitter tropical fruit,… Thick resin / caramel body. Very solid IPA. This one came out at the top in a tasting involving lots of big name DIPA’s & IPA’s.

Jai Alai is the best IPA I have ever had. A phenomenal brew that "wows you" from the minute I cracked open the can and poured it into a glass, Aroma, appearance and taste were all max scores. A must buy if you have not tried this IPA.

Can to glass. Pours a clear copper. Light head with fine lacing. Aroma is citrusy hop and some sweet caramel. Medium thick mouth. Sweet malt flavor with good hop finish. Maltier than expected from an IPA but smooth and tasty. 7.5 ABV

Citra, floral, west coast style ipa. One of my favorite IPA’s and glad to call it a Florida native.
