Jai Alai India Pale Ale pays tribute to the original extreme sport. Jai Alai, a game native to the Basque region of Spain, is played on a court called a fronton. Jai Alai players attempt to catch a ball using a curved mitt, whilst the ball travels at speeds of up to 188 miles per hour! Proving they have a sense of humor the Spanish dub this game, with its ball traveling at race car speeds, """"the merry game."""" Tampa was once home to a busy Jai Alai fronton but sadly all that remains of Jai Alai in the Tampa Bay area is this India Pale Ale that we brew in tribute to the merry game. The India Pale Ale style of beer has its roots in the strong ales sent from England to thirsty British troops in India during the 18th century. To survive the journey the beers needed more alcohol and more hops (which act as a natural preservative). This “big” brewing practice made India Pale Ale one of the first """"extreme beers"""" and a favorite among the Queens military men in India. Eventually it became a favorite style of the new crop of American brewers seeking more flavor and complexity than mass-market brewers were willing to offer.

12 oz. can. Pours a hazy orange-gold color with 1.5 finger-thick off-white head. Aroma is citrus, almost orange-like. Medium-full body, the citrus hops take over with a bit of a malt background, sticky mouthfeel. Finish is very citrus-like. At 7.5%, I’d think this was a DIPA rather than an IPA. Very good!

Malty, Rich & Fruity. Americano Stuff mit Weinreferenzen. The Weisse Traube strikes back.

Couple ounces on draft at Dominion Wine & Beer poured into a Belgian snifter. Thanks Tyler/Alex! Have had this numerous times but forgot I never rated it. Hazy golden orange with off-white head. Aromas of malt, citrus, light floral. Tastes of citrus, floral, malt. Medium body with a dry finish. Really solid though it’s not quite as good as I remember it being in the past.

On tap at csakajo. Lightly hazy yellow colour almost no head. Juicy, fruity nose. Taste is also the same, orange skin, bitterness and honey. A world class ipa

Grassy piney nose, light burnished copper color with modeeate head. Drinkable moderate body, with grapefruit hop character. A solid 2nd tier IPA.

Sampled at Borefts 2016, Bodegraven. Semi-hazy orange pour with a white nead. Notes of oranges, citrus hops, some caramel and honey. Medium body and carbonation and a bitter-sweet finish.

On draft at the Blind Tiger. Cloudy dull orange gold, mild white head. Strong citrus, orange, honey, biscuits. Quite bitter, strong sourdough, maltiness. Heavier body, very oily. Long, lingering finish. Alcohol is more than a bit up front. Not the most balanced. Still very good.
