Commercial Description:
Jai Alai India Pale Ale pays tribute to the original extreme sport. Jai Alai, a game native to the Basque region of Spain, is played on a court called a fronton. Jai Alai players attempt to catch a ball using a curved mitt, whilst the ball travels at speeds of up to 188 miles per hour! Proving they have a sense of humor the Spanish dub this game, with its ball traveling at race car speeds, """"the merry game."""" Tampa was once home to a busy Jai Alai fronton but sadly all that remains of Jai Alai in the Tampa Bay area is this India Pale Ale that we brew in tribute to the merry game. The India Pale Ale style of beer has its roots in the strong ales sent from England to thirsty British troops in India during the 18th century. To survive the journey the beers needed more alcohol and more hops (which act as a natural preservative). This “big” brewing practice made India Pale Ale one of the first """"extreme beers"""" and a favorite among the Queens military men in India. Eventually it became a favorite style of the new crop of American brewers seeking more flavor and complexity than mass-market brewers were willing to offer.

Draft at Tank’s. Pours a moderate amber with a small beige head. Taste is full of fresh, citrusy hops; very brash and strong but not overbearing at all. A strong, flavorful, unapologetic IPA. Awesome!

On tap at Liberty Street Tavern in Allentown. Poured a clear copper color with a white foam head. Aroma of floral hops and caramel sweetness. Very light sweetness and average bitterness. I like my IPAs hoppier than this. Good body and easy to drink.

on tap at Lizzy’s in Orlando, pours carmel straw color with a medium white head. Nice straw and hop aroma. Very nice IPA balanced with just enough maltyness and very dry in the bitter pine finish. I really enjoyed this, it’s a very easy drinker.

Pours orange with a foamy white head and lots of lacing. Taste is grapefruit, some floral and pine notes. Excellent IPA, I can’t wait for six packs of this at every grocery store.

Draught at Ginger Man, NYC
Hazy amber color; beautiful creamy head; nice lace. Very nice aroma, fruity and resiny; light bubble-gum, citrusy; very light cheese. Good body and good mix of malt and toffee flavor; surely bitter, with some of the bitterness coming from bitter oranges, and resins; it’s as well creamy. Long final, with light alcohol impression too. Very good.

Clear copper with a good head. Slightly floral hops. The bitterness really isn’t that strong for the style.

Tap at Capone’s. Pours out a mostly clear light copper color with a decent white head. Aroma is of citrus and floral hops and a nice sweet caramel malt note making its way in there also. Taste is complex and very well balanced, citrus hops take center stage, floral notes also make an appearance and there is a nice ever-present caramel malt note in there too. Very well balanced in my opinion because at no point did the malty notes overtake the hops.
