COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Jai Alai India Pale Ale pays tribute to the original extreme sport. Jai Alai, a game native to the Basque region of Spain, is played on a court called a fronton. Jai Alai players attempt to catch a ball using a curved mitt, whilst the ball travels at speeds of up to 188 miles per hour! Proving they have a sense of humor the Spanish dub this game, with its ball traveling at race car speeds, """"the merry game."""" Tampa was once home to a busy Jai Alai fronton but sadly all that remains of Jai Alai in the Tampa Bay area is this India Pale Ale that we brew in tribute to the merry game. The India Pale Ale style of beer has its roots in the strong ales sent from England to thirsty British troops in India during the 18th century. To survive the journey the beers needed more alcohol and more hops (which act as a natural preservative). This “big” brewing practice made India Pale Ale one of the first """"extreme beers"""" and a favorite among the Queens military men in India. Eventually it became a favorite style of the new crop of American brewers seeking more flavor and complexity than mass-market brewers were willing to offer.

35,5 cl bottle @ home, bottled(?) on 25.07.2011
Aroma has hops with resin and exotic fruits. Also hints of gooseberry bush. Aroma is sweetish with exotic fruits, but also some cardboard and vegetables. Probably past its best already.

35,5 cl can @ hotel room, Copenhagen. Canned 03.03.2014?
Aroma has hay and peaches. Also some grainy and mineral tones. Flavour has pineapple juice, passionfruit, hops and some pine needles. Refreshing, a lot better now and without off-flavours. Perhaps a bit stuffy at the end of the glass though. 7+4+8+4+16=3.9

Bardzo bardzo mało wyczuwalny aromat. Delikatna owocowa słodycz z nuta mrożonej herbaty w tle. Piwo słodkie, owocowe. Brak goryczki, delikatna jedynie w posmaku. Jak na IPA kiepsko. Odczucie w ustach średnie. Piwo bursztynowe, mętne. Ładny lacing.

Very good IPA with a nice upfront citrus hop note. Finishes clean with a lingering hoppiness that is pleasing to the palate. A very good beer for those hot summer days. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Niby w puszce, a jednak utlenione.

12 oz can from the brewery via Christine (thanks!), served cold in a tulip glass.

App.: Slightly hazy amber with a tight, off-white head. Aroma: Rich tropical fruitiness and peach/apricot with a little burnt hair (I get this a lot from hoppy beers), pungent citrus, a little resinous and peppery, bread crust and biscuit malt support. Palate: Medium+ body, fairly lively carbonation. Flav.: Like the nose with plenty of rich, juicy fruitiness, peppery, slight burnt hair, a little more malt presence; off-dry with reasonable bitterness and a long fruity hops finish.

Quite good...as if there was any doubt!

Pours dark orange with beautiful head. Aroma: very herbish and grassy, with a sweet malt touch. Taste: again grass and herbs, some sweet white fruit in the background and malty sweetness. Very elegant. Great, drinkable stuff.

Cigar City IPA named after an old folk game from the Basque region; one of many American craft beers nowadays coming from attractively designed cans. Thick, egg-white, moussy, dense head over a beautifully pinkish orange, misty beer. Lovely IPA aroma, extremely fruity and delightfully perfumey, with hints of pink grapefruit, canned apricot, some pine wood, fresh orange juice, mango, gin, pineapple, fresh peppermint leaves, toasted bread, roses, mandarin, basil, vanilla, papaja. Delicately fruity taste, no big esters but rather a refined assortment of pineapple, apricot, orange, tangelo and mango, medium to rather soft carbo which I think is appropriate for the style, slight salty accent but not so much that it becomes bothersome; after the initial, delicate honeyish fruit sweetness, an equally gentle, fluffy, light and very elegant caramelly and very lightly toasted malt character follows, eventually making room for the hops, manifesting themselves in a long, graciously bittering, drying finish, resinous, citrussy and very floral, very aromatic and fitting in perfectly with the fruitiness and the soft sweet malt character. I had a deep trust in this brewery’s standard and I have not been proven wrong: this is an IPA of utmost elegance, almost feminine, displaying both luxury and ’softness’ in all its parts, which thereby complement each other perfectly. One of the best ’regular’ IPAs I had so far, truly mouth watering.
