COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Jai Alai India Pale Ale pays tribute to the original extreme sport. Jai Alai, a game native to the Basque region of Spain, is played on a court called a fronton. Jai Alai players attempt to catch a ball using a curved mitt, whilst the ball travels at speeds of up to 188 miles per hour! Proving they have a sense of humor the Spanish dub this game, with its ball traveling at race car speeds, """"the merry game."""" Tampa was once home to a busy Jai Alai fronton but sadly all that remains of Jai Alai in the Tampa Bay area is this India Pale Ale that we brew in tribute to the merry game. The India Pale Ale style of beer has its roots in the strong ales sent from England to thirsty British troops in India during the 18th century. To survive the journey the beers needed more alcohol and more hops (which act as a natural preservative). This “big” brewing practice made India Pale Ale one of the first """"extreme beers"""" and a favorite among the Queens military men in India. Eventually it became a favorite style of the new crop of American brewers seeking more flavor and complexity than mass-market brewers were willing to offer.

35,5 cl bottle @ home, bottled(?) on 25.07.2011
Aroma has hops with resin and exotic fruits. Also hints of gooseberry bush. Aroma is sweetish with exotic fruits, but also some cardboard and vegetables. Probably past its best already.

35,5 cl can @ hotel room, Copenhagen. Canned 03.03.2014?
Aroma has hay and peaches. Also some grainy and mineral tones. Flavour has pineapple juice, passionfruit, hops and some pine needles. Refreshing, a lot better now and without off-flavours. Perhaps a bit stuffy at the end of the glass though. 7+4+8+4+16=3.9

330ml can served in a pint glass. A: Pours a clear dark orange color forming a modest creamy white head with great retention and only few spotty lacings left in the glass. S: Strong notes of caramel and flowery hops in the nose. Strong notes of pine, resin, mango and grapefruit. Very fruity nose. T: Sweet upfront. Strong notes of caramel and crystal malts becoming quickly grassy and bitter. Strong and very persistent bitterness. Good bittersweet balance. Strong notes of pine, grapefruit and resin. American style Ale yeasts. Bready and biscuity. M: Medium to heavy body. Average carbonation. Caramel, grass and grapefruit in the aftertaste. Persistent hops bitterness. O: Excellent drinkability. American classic IPA. Masterpiece.

TASTE: moderate-high hop flavour with notes of pine, resin and some tropical fruit. sweet background of supportive malt. medium bitterness that lasts into a semi-dry finish. PALATE: medium-light body with a slight smooth texture. medium-low carbonation. OVERALL: a nice american IPA with a good balance.

Blind taste test! GLASS ONE: Hazy orange with good carbonation and a good white head. AROMA: malty, spice, bitter/sour citrus, herbal/floral hops, caramel, pineapple, light pink peppercorns, lightly sugary, hop bitterness... TASTE: heavy malt, hop bitterness warmth, caramel, bitter sweet citrus, pine bitterness, tangerines, boozy. Stronger aroma, better head lacing and slightly thicker. GLASS TWO: Clear orange with high carbonation and I good head. AROMA: tropical fruit, floral hops, light caramel, little spice, hop bitterness, sweet citrus... TASTE: pine bitterness, citrus, herbal bitter hops, lightly malty, bittersweet fruit, light caramel, almost a caramelized pineapple, hop oil heat... Light feel, smooth, sweeter taste and lighter on bitterness. Overall I preferred GLASS TWO. However, GLASS ONE would be a better brew for a hot ass day. GLASS ONE leaves an oily but not dry finish feel in the mouth while GLASS TWO also leaves an oily feel but slightly dry alcohol feel. So what did I prefer, aged or fresh? My favorite was the one year old brew, GLASS TWO. Fooled the shit out of me. Reminded me of a fresh Sierra Nevada Bigfoot. Thank you so much for the brews Matt M Florida. GLASS ONE 06/11/2015. GLASS TWO 07/10/2014

I have been waiting a long time to try a Cigar City offering, and this came through with flying colors. Great IPA flavor with citrus pine. Love it.

Can: Hazy amber with a thick, off-white head. Cedar, orange, grapefruit aroma. Malty, evergreens, orange-peel, pineapple flavor. Creamy, yet tingly....nice strong hops....big peel/pine bittering. Excellent....flirts with Imperial-ness.

12 oz. bottled poured into an awkwardly small glass at Grease in WPB. Due to the size of the glass, I had to pour very slowly to fit as much of the bottle as possible into the glass. Pours amber with, in my case, almost no head and good lacing. Citrus hops with a strong malt aroma. Smells nutty with some caramel. The taste follows the smell. Citrus hops with a nutty malt backbone. There is a faint sweetness and a slightly bitter finish. Hardly a thick beer, but it’s got a good body. Somewhat low carbonation for the style, but it isn’t offensively low. Good IPA.

Bottle to tulip. Dark golden, slight cloudiness. Smallish yellowish head. Moderate lacing. Aroma unique tropical fruit -pineapple , mild grain. Taste balanced malt, prominent grapefruit rind , pine. Moderate bitter hop finish. Solid ipa with character. Different but not too complicated.

Almost orange cloudy amber, offwhite foam. Tropical hops on a medium full chewy base. Sweet and fruity, piney bitterness to cut through the stickiness.

Tale of two beers. Had two from the same 6 pack, one was OMG excellent, one was dull and not nearly as good. It was an odd thing. Some, the great one had an almost orange juice like taste. Very citrus forward aroma. The dull one had a muted citrus aroma. Was more on the bitter side with way less citrus taste. Still good, just not as good as the other can.
