An aggressively hopped robust porter named for the Cuban national hero who also spent a significant amount of time in Tampa and gained prominence in Latin American literature from the poetry, essays, and publications he contributed to in his lifetime.

12oz courtesy of tastybeer. Pours a clear cola with a thin, tan head that leaves big sheety lacing. Aroma is straight up chocolate milkshake, very rich chocolate. Taste is hoppy, biting, cocoa, milk chocolate. Full-bodied but easy to drink. Palate moves from dry cocoa powder to near chalky and cardboardy. Pretty solid porter and simply well made. Reminds me of something Williamsburg AleWerks would do. Doesn’t come across as 8% from the nice hop balancing.

From a bottle. Pour is deep brown with a large khaki head. Aroma is chocolate, coffee, and citrus hops coming through. Flavor starts of bitter and astringent, and slowly gives way to chocolate flavors. Finishes bitter and still slightly astringent. The bitterness is a bit too strong for me, and covers up the richer malt flavors. Thanks for the bottle JW!

12 ounce bottle thanks to Kan. Pours a black hue with a large brown creamy head. A great roasted malt nose with some hops and smoke. The flavor is very damn good; smoke, huge pine-like hops, rich roasted malts, cocoa, chocolates. Smooth and very flavorful. Lovely. A creamy palate.

12 oz. brown bottle from 50belair. A dark brown beer with a small but nice head. The aroma smells like cola, chocolate, roast. A nice aroma. The taste has some nice dark fruit and a roasted malt taste that seems to add some bitterness although this is a pretty hoppy porter. There is some chocolate but more along the lines of unsweetened bakers chocolate which makes it a little rugged. This is a nice porter and I like it.

Bottle shared by Shane, thanks! Poured a very dark brown with a dark tan head that dissipated to the edges. Aroma had notes of caramel, sweet chocolate and a some sweet roasted malts. Flavor was similar with caramel and sweet chocolate with a roasted finish.

A big fan of imperial porters I was looking forward to this from the time I found it on the site while idly browsing. When the box from Florida arrived it went right to the front of the line. It did not quite meet my expectations. Even so this was a very well crafted beer that deserves a shot. Coming from one of the best breweries in the country I think it sets the bar for what can be done. Even if it is not the best in class it is no slouch.

Aroma / Appearance - Fluid and black the body was decorated with a top like powdered chocolate. Sheer and clingy the lacing was smooth along the sides of the glass. Cocoa, ash, and spiced hot chocolate warm the senses. A little bit different than what I was expecting it was still above average and inviting.

Flavor / Palate - Thick and chewy like a beer milkshake the mouthfeel is rich and robust. Chocolate, smoke, and traces of anise linger on the palate. Heavy on the malt it doesn’t hold back. At the same time I feel it could be a little thicker. Overall it feels like a cousin of Southern Tier Choklat.

Courtesy of bierenutz. Dark brown, transparent edges, nice head, growing legs. Aroma has huge pine up front, hides most everything. As it warms, roast come through a little bit. Flavor much the same, huge hops up front, roast, coffee, hop bitterness dominates finish. Cleanest CCB bear I’ve had. Not a huge robust porter fan, but this is pretty solid, and if you dig this style, you have to try this.
