Pours a pretty brown/black with a slow falling finger of latte foam. Nice lace. Smells of grass, mint, resin, cold coffee and dry malts. Bitter up front with a kick of dry, porter malts and a woody toasted malt finish. The flavor is progressive and fun. Medium bodied with a little higher carb than preferred for the style and a hint of dryness on the finish (which is nice). A good beer from my standpoint. The nose is a little meh, but the hops are not overdone, and that was a fear. They have done a decent job walking the line between ABA and Porter.

Very dry with a lot of carbonation. Lots of burnt coffee and cereals. Very hoppy in the finish. A strident beer. Aggressive. Not for the faint of tongue.

Deep brown body sprouts plenty of thick, stubborn, tan head. Beady lace disrespects the cleanliness of the glass it was poured into. Gorgeous.
Hearty roast character meets hops in the aroma. Smells dry as a bone; earthy undertones help create a unique bouquet amongst porters.
Roasty malts, black licorice, root beer (there's a surprising amount of this), tinged grain, hoppy on the back end. Sticky hops cling to my throat, contributing their bitterness to the dry finish.
Viscous body, yet Jose Marti starts off with too much carbonation. Odd, as the two generally go hand in hand. This was an interesting, enjoyable take on the style, all things considered. Everett still crushes JM, but hey, that can be said about nearly every other porter out there. And did I mention it's beautiful?

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle (12 oz). From Chris, thanks! Dark brown (almost black) with reddish highlights and a medium mostly lasting beige head. Aroma is roasted and quite hoppy with cocoa notes and citrus notes. Taste is moderately sweet with roasted malt, cacao, citrus and light bitter finish. Alcohol is well hidden. Medium body. Moderate to good carbonation. Slightly dry finish. The line is thin between this Porter and a Black IPA. Drinkable, especially for an 8% abv beer. Enjoyable.

12oz bottle. Poured dark brown color with a thin light tan head that fell quickly. Aroma of oasted and dark malts, and moderate coffee. Roasted cubano coffee flavor from start to finish with some residual malt sweetness and backing. Some light underlying hop bitterness. The coffee was the dominating flavor. Medium body and light carbonation.
