On tap at BX Beer Depot’s CCB Tap Takeover - aged for one year
An example of a mellow yet robust porter. Rich and decadent, dark fruit, and coffee to finish. Velvety mouth feel and lingering finish
3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 mcberko (4053) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - JAN 20, 2013
750mL bottle, sent from LateStart (thanks Jordan), pours black with a small tan head. Aroma of light cocoa powder, some roast, and dry wood. Flavour of light cocoa powder, a bit of sourness, some soot and burnt / roasted malts. Medium bodied, with a lot of the wood upfront, like it’s been aged. Finishes on vinegar and sour cocoa notes. Bizarre Baltic porter, certainly not conforming to style. Decent stuff.

A nice beer, had on tap at CC Tasting Room. A bitter rather than a sour finish. Black with a small amount of lace.Chocolate and Spicy. Big chocolate spicy bite at the end.

Bottle shared with Paul and Brendan. Pours a deep oil black body with thin brown lacing. Aroma is smoke, rOasted malts, earthy hops and cocoa. Mouthfeel is medium to full with notes of chocolate, light smoke, roasted malts, toasted bread, earthy hope and spice. A very nice Baltic style porter.

Bottle:   Nearly black, thin frothy beige head, spotty lacing.   Aroma of tootsie rolls, popsicles, and sweet roasted malts.   Much more traditional on the tongue, sweet roasted malts, a bit of coffee and chocolate.   There is a slight fruitiness to it, with a very soft sour tinge that comes and goes very quickly.   Not as salty or vinegar like as other examples (thankfully), and certainly complex.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate to full.   Finishes a bit dry, some cocoa, lightly hopped, a tad sour dark pitted fruit.   Solid beer!
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 rbrazell (961) - Tallahassee, Florida, USA - JAN 9, 2013
Draft at Proof. Black pour with a creamy tan head. Lots of big roast, charcoal, coffee beans with bittersweet dry chocolate. Flavor has notes of creamy chocolate, roast, milk duds, coffee and a dry earthiness. Slightly sweet finish and a medium body. Not too shabby.

Bottle from Craft Beer Brixton. Pours dark brown with a beige head. Sweet and vinous nose, sour fruits in the lead. Some chocolate, but mostly sour fruit flavours. Decent.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 JCB (3798) - Durham, North Carolina, USA - JAN 3, 2013
750ml from Leuken’s Liquors. Nice dark brown pour, quite modest carbonation. Nose is deeply chocolatey, with some leather, nuts, and licorice in there. Inviting enough but not exactly what I expect from the style. Mouthfeel was very much on the thin side, palate a bit blah. Dark fruits, rolled oats, a hint of coffee, and loads of chocolate in the flavor, the latter more or less steamrolling anything else. Surprisingly underwhelmed by this CCB brew.

Smoky flavors and aromas consisting of burnt wood, molasses, caramel and dark fruit. Pours a beautiful dark brown/black with a khaki head. Medium bodied with a slightly bitter finish. A very good beer.
