bottle from trade shared 7/28/12.
blackish brown with a creamy tan head.
aromas of roast, licorice, plums, browned - brown sugar, paint, chocolate, a little nutty yeast and a bunch of grape-like fruitiness.
the flavor is the same but the grape makes me not want to drink more than a snifter of it... also, it gives it a bit of unpleasant tartness.
medium bodied, roasty and dry with a little boozy heat. 6/4/6/3/14-

Bottle at Leighton’s Beer, Bocce and Boozer tasting, thanks to jackl. It pours very dark brown, with a thick light tan head. The nose is roasted malt, caramel, chocolate and toasted coconut. The taste roasted malt, residual sweetness, dark fruit, touch of tanginess, lactose, brown sugar, chocolate and alcohol warmth, with a dry-roasted finish. Medium body and average carbonation. Decent stuff, but I am still left a little underwhelmed.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 pantanap (3153) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - FEB 16, 2012
On tap at the source... Pours a deeper cola hued consistency with deeper reddish brown edges and topped with a medium khaki tan head that slowly reduces to a thicker ring around the edges if the glass... Sweet cocoa and moderate roasty malt component. Dark fruit surfaces late to coincide with the aforementioned... Flavors are not overly sweet with an earthy cocoa chocolate note to coincide with a meshing note of roasted malt. Again dak fruits come through late. Perfect amount of sweetness that never becomes overbearing. Dryness cuts through any lingering residual sweetness. Pretty nice.
3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 Benjii (3049) - Edinburgh, SCOTLAND - APR 13, 2012
In bottle at Craig’s. Pours a black colour with a thin light tan head. Aroma of dark chocolate, liquorice and a little burnt toast. Similar flavours with lingering alcohol, dark chocolate again and Ovaltine. Mild carbonation, light CO2 prickle and an oily mouth-feel. Quite bitter to finish. Lovely.
