Guava Grove is an American Sour Guava Ale that experiences three fermentations. Primary fermentation is conducted with lactobacillus, a bacteria that sours the wort. The secondary fermentation takes place when we add a saison yeast that is French in origin. The tertiary fermentation is spurred by the addition of one of Tampa’s favored fruits, guava. The acidity of this elegant ale cuts fatty foods and oily fish from the palate beautifully. Pairs well with mussels cooked in gueuze, ceviche, ferrines and rich, creamy cheese or cheesecake.

Shared bomber to snifters. Hazy golden yellow. Medium carb. Enticing fruity aroma with a funky nuance. Yummy citrusy fruity flavors with restrained tartness.

Pours a hazy gold from the bottle with fluffy off-white head that dissipates to leave good lace. Aroma is funky sweet citrus with earthy undertones. Taste is tart fruity awesome, acidic middle, nice sweeter finish. Interesting, very nicely done, good carbonation.

Lots of guava in this one, and it works better for me than Don Gavino’s because there isn’t the heavy wine barrel quality adding a sharp acidity, instead there’s a more typical lactic yogurty quality. Good beer.

650ml bottle. Smells like a can of applesauce, like a #10 can of it. Metal and foodservice scent and all. The flavor is mild, not sour at all, the guava seems unripe and vegetal. Not a great brew.

750 poured into tulips at bottle share. Body is light orange and hazy with an off-white finger of head that settles to some foam. Minimal, spotty lacing. Aroma is lacto sourness, guava, malt, and funk. Taste is sour guava and other tropical fruits, some sweetness, and funk. I got a lot of grain and yeast on the swallow that was not particularly pleasant. Medium body, thin texture, moderate-plus carbonation, and a long grainy finish.

Bottle... Pours murky and amber with a petite, creamy, white head. Good retention. The nose features heaps of guava and big-time, woody funkiness. Full-bodied with soft carbonation. The flavor is lightly sour and fruity – guava, apricot and pluot. Tart, juicy finish. Bottle courtesy of darkguardian!

Sampled at GABF 2014. Pours a deep hazy golden body with thick white lacing. Aroma is fresh funky tart fruit character, sour fruit - peach and apricots and lacto. Mouthfeel comes through very nice with restrained acidity, lovely tart character, sweet strawberries and sour peach candies.

Bottle @ Pat’s. Thanks, Jake. Hazed orange pour with a short lived white head. Smells mostly like banana and lemon with a bit of pineapple and some tropical fruit. A bit of jelly and bread. Sort of a sweet and sour juxtaposition on the tongue. More sweet than sour, though. Banana fruitiness and guava jelly. Lemon and a touch of pineapple. Some sweet bread and a touch of citrus zest.

Enjoyed at gabf 2014. It pours with an opaque deep gold body that has copper hues and supports a nice looking tan head. The aroma is big and musty and guava-y as well as tart and funky and then lingering with some sweet fruitiness into the end of the draw. Wow, the taste is a great mix of acidic tartness, fruity guava notes and lots of tasty guava going on. It ends with a sweet guava fruitiness right into the after taste. The taste is a great mix of acidic tartness and tasty fruity guava goodness (that I thought was lacking some in the standard Guava Grove offering but it is here in spades). Refreshing. Very nice.

750ml shared by Madvike at a tasting. Late in the evening...detailed notes did not happen. Lacto adds some real depth, I like it a lot. A lot more enjoyable than the regular version, more depth.
