Bottle shared at RBWG! Pours a murky reddish brown with little to no lacing or head. Aroma of sweet caramel and toffee, a hint of candied sugar, and booze. Taste is awesome, spices, ginger, dark fruits, toffee, sweet brandy, and a bit of booze. Thick and sticky on the mouth with a bit of warmth on the way down. Cigar City makes some of the best barley wines I have ever had.

Bottle at RBWG. Pours deep, cloudy amber with no head. Nose is very sweet, lots of glue, some apple/cinnamon, other spices, botanicals. Similar flavor, more generic boozy than apple brandy (though I did get some cider-like notes). Meh.

750mL shared at RBWG Grand Tasting. Pours a muddy, reddish mahogany. No real head. Nose is very intense Twizzlers candies, some paper. Taste is quite nice- spices, ginger, baked cherry, toffee. Rich, dense body. Calvados heat is muted, not overpowering, though hard to pinpoint as Calvados. Doesn’t come across as barrel aged except for some gained oxidation in the nose.

UPDATED: MAR 17, 2013 75cl, no mention of ABV, new exclusive American brew Anno 2012, from De Hopduvel Gent, very complex brew, sweet/alcoholic and slightly woody/fruity, not too heavy, balanced, cloudy, small head, very good brew, yet very expensive!

Bottle at fletchfighters tasting. Thanks guys! Pours a cloudy brown colour with a beige head. Aroma is malty, caramel, dark fruits, hints of brandy and woody notes. Taste is high sweet with a medium bitterness. Alcohol hidden VERY well, no way you’d know is 13.5%. Absolutely stunning!

75cl courtesy of and split with Ibrew2or3, cheers Dave!

Very murky burnt red. Dark, almost brown. No head Nose is very "barrely" very sweet. Hint of pears Taste is very sweet. Loads of raisins and apricots. Brown sugar. Very sweet. Hint of vanilla. The brandy and high abv add this insane alcohol burn which is a downer. Still, an incredible beer that I could enjoy myself. Very nicel

THX! to Ibrew2or3 for sharing this one. 75 cl. bottle sampled. Pours a darkish brown & a mocha head that mainly consist of some bubbles on the side of the glass. The barrel is HUGE on this one, decadent & rich nose of fine ‘brandy’ – couldn’t pinpoint it as brandy speicifically since I am not sure if I have ever head brandy but this is certainly something different & distinct from other barrels – enjoyable alcohol riding over a strong sugar sweetness, molasses, getting more very red grapes than apple here, oak, alcohol soaked dark fruits, sticky candy,… This big, taste is similar, HUGE barrel, sweet alcoholic brandy with molasses, oak, caramel, sweet booze, strong in the finish with caramel, dark fruits, red grapes, raisins soaked in brandy, warming. Thick, slick, lesser carb. this is one big beer, flirting with going over the edge but stays on the right side. Total sipper.

This bottled brew from a rating party poured a head of bubbles that were mostly lasting and left behind a no visible carbonation hazy dark brown colored body and a fair lacing. The mild aroma was brown malt and mild vinous. The mouth feel was tingly at the start and at the finish. The strong flavor contained notes of vinous and brown malt. Delicious and one I would certainly like to have again.
