A- pours a super murky burnt amber and brown. Mild light tan, clingy head. No lacing. S- grains, sourdough bread, oats, graham crackers, über honey, prunes, dried dates, maple syrup, faint grass, cherry cordial. Brandy influence is minimally present. M- medium to heavy oily body with a sweet and sugary heavy palette. Medium carbonation. T- grains, prunes and oats up front. Stinging alcohol comes on strong in the middle. Clover honey and dark fruits also come on strong in the mid palette. Graham crackers too. Caramel. Some weak cheap, fund-raising milk chocolate. Ending is more honey, syrup, minerals, mild chalk, grass, hops, and more grain intensity.

Bottle: The aroma consists of caramel, toffee, faint molasses, and brandy It pours a dark brown with some faint orange highlights and a small beige head that quickly fades to a very thin ring. The flavor starts with caramel, toffee, raisin, molasses, and fruit. The finish has moderate brandy, apple, and booze. It’s full bodied with mild carbonation and a sticky mouthfeel.

UPDATED: AUG 21, 2014 Bottle: Murky, dark brown copper body, fully opaque except for at the very top. Beige head, recedes quickly to a collar. Aroma has big notes of big raisins, sweet caramel, warmth & sweet apple brandy, wood, & a big, sweet plum presence. Some molasses in the finish, too. Taste is very smooth for being 13.5% ABV... Caramel, toffee, sweet booze soaked raisins, plums, caramelized sugar, sweet apple brandy, wet oak, some cocoa dust, & a little bit of tannin in the aftertaste. A touch of licorice, maybe? A very nice barley wine with a solid apple brandy presence.

Pour out of 750 mL bottle, thick reddish brown pour with thin tan head, aroma is big brandy, sweet sugar notes into some slight tart apple, some red fruits with cherry, hints of oak go into lots of molasses, dark sugars, hints of fig, plum in there as well, almost a dark chocolate note comes through as well. Taste is great, nice balance of big sweet cherry, vanilla, brandy, and oak notes go into a slight yeasty and earthy malt, nice dark fruits come through with a touch of cherry, finishing fairly sweet, slightly oaky. Well done.

Pours coca cola colored with a slightly lighter colored head. Some sediment. Smell is amazingly complex, brandy and tobacco, red fruit. Taste sweet, cherry, bit of brandy, bit of coco. Fuller bodied. Very rich. Very good.

Medium yellow-tan head over muddy red-brown beer. Sharpish, rather acidic nose; fruity and alcohol. I smell Bourbon, rather than brandy, though, vanilla included. Sharp flavour, again, but here rather alcohol than acids. Sweetish, if bitterish lined beer. Many chocolate notes (both black as milkchocolate). Faint vanilla, wood, ethanol, sugar. Unspecified dark fruit. More vanilla retronasal; warming up liquorice and plums. Bit burning MF, alcoholheat. Texture is viscous, oily; obviously low carbonation however not flat at all. Rather classical sample of barrel aging. Good, but nowhere spectacular.
