Bottle shared by tom10101, thanks a lot Tommy! Magnificient deep brown with a thin white head that sticks. There is a little alcohol in the aroma which must come from the apple brandy but it is pleasing and a good sign of what is to come. There is also a lot of sweetness in the aroma: brown sugar, caramel... you know the drill. Taste is full of sweets too but never cloying. There is a little alcohol burn but this only reinforce the fine spirit aura that this marvelous brew has. At times I thought this could have been labeled as an Old Ale too. Not sure how I could ever pick a winner from KRE, this, King Henry, MoaS, Cuir 100% BBA (we had them back to back on a quiet afternoon... woot!)... they were all exceptionnal in their own ways!

Tasted from draft. Pours a dark reddish brown with off white head. Aroma is sweet with dark fruits and caramel. Taste is moderately to heavily sweet with minimal bitterness. Flavors of dark fruits, caramel, syrup, earthy notes and brandy. Not my favorite barley wine but definitely one of the better ones. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Batch 1. Pours a murky dark brown with a very fine layer of foam floating on the surface. The aroma is of sweet apple brandy and oak. There is less dominating notes of toffee, fruit, and vanilla too. The flavor is rich and balanced. I could taste buttery toffee, mild tart fruits, soft chocolate, brown sugar, and sweet warming brandy booze. The finish had a pleasant lingering booze, mild bitterness, and a cherry tart fruit taste that blended well together. In the end this was a fine barrel aged barleywine brew.

Tap at Siren Festival of Wood. Dark reddish brown shade. Light tan head fading down. Aroma has a woody, apple, medicinal vibe. Barrel comes through in the taste. Lots of brown sugar. Hints of cola, chocolate and fruit running through. Thick, almost syrupy mouthfeel. Pretty drinkable though. Very nice and unique barley wine, but not quite in the elite tier.
