3.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle... Murky brown ale with a small, white, short-lived head. The bouquet furnishes buttery caramel, toffee and loads of apple brandy. Medium to full-bodied with feather-soft carbonation. The flavor is remarkably well-balanced - caramel, apple brandy, vanilla, oak and an awkward earthy component. Finishes earthy and a touch minerally. I enjoyed the base beer (Church on a Hill) and the Cognac Barrel-aged Church on a Hill much more than this treatment. I gotta go against the grain here, but not by much. Bottle courtesy of burg326!

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle @ Steve_0’s house, thanks to markwise. Thanks! Pours a hazy orangish brown appearance with a brown head. Rich caramel, a touch smoky, apple / pear, chocolate, toffee aroma. Kind of spicy, chewy caramel candy, dark chocolate flavor with a lot of white fruit. Pretty sweet but not overly so. Tasty.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Tap at CBC 2015. Pours cloudy brown with a ring tan head. Aroma of vanilla, bourbon, malt, toffee, caramel and light wood. Flavor is heavy sweet with a fairly thick chewy palate. Full bodied with soft carbonation. Overall simply too sweet to drink much more than a sampler of.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
750mL shared at RBWG Grand Tasting. Pours a muddy, reddish mahogany. No real head. Nose is very intense Twizzlers candies, some paper. Taste is quite nice- spices, ginger, baked cherry, toffee. Rich, dense body. Calvados heat is muted, not overpowering, though hard to pinpoint as Calvados. Doesn’t come across as barrel aged except for some gained oxidation in the nose.

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
Bottle thanks to Brian. Pours a cloudy brown with small beige head. The aroma is strong brandy, apple skin, wood. Medium mouthfeel with nice booze, apple core, oak, and nice lingering sweet finish, hides alcohol well, very impressive.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
750ml bottle, bottled 9/7/12. Shared with the local group. Hazy brown, slightly amber-red color. Thin khaki head. Good spread of dotty lace. Big complex aroma. Caramel, wood, lightly spice, light bright fruit notes. Awesome creamy smooth texture, light carbonation. Not hot at all. Flavor carries the alcohol. Minimal warmth, just a hint of a bite in the finish. Sweeter taste, lightly spicy, pretty rich and decadent, though. Great barley wine.

Bottle, shared at RBAG 2014, I believe by Ferris. Dark amber, creamy off white head. Big toast and sweet bourbon aroma. Sweet apple bourbon and toffee flavours, moderately bitter. Lovely balance, deep malt structure. Superb.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Medium yellow-tan head over muddy red-brown beer. Sharpish, rather acidic nose; fruity and alcohol. I smell Bourbon, rather than brandy, though, vanilla included. Sharp flavour, again, but here rather alcohol than acids. Sweetish, if bitterish lined beer. Many chocolate notes (both black as milkchocolate). Faint vanilla, wood, ethanol, sugar. Unspecified dark fruit. More vanilla retronasal; warming up liquorice and plums. Bit burning MF, alcoholheat. Texture is viscous, oily; obviously low carbonation however not flat at all. Rather classical sample of barrel aging. Good, but nowhere spectacular.
