Draught. Dark brown and slightly reddish. Very toasty aroma, though this is served pretty cold. The palate is quite toasty with some complex darker malts. The body is full, and a little bit smoky. Finishes dry. Good schwarzbier.

Growler … Fantômepalooza 2011… Pours coal black with a mid-sized, creamy, khaki head. Good retention. The bouquet is very rich and roasty – mocha, chocolate crème and vanilla. Medium to full-bodied with jazzy carbonation. Roasty and a touch acrid. Moderately tangy. Burnt mocha finish. Kudos to Dstructo for sharing this beer!

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
My Bottom Line :
Prominent roasted malts and their coffee bean angles dominate this lager’s date and vanilla-like fruitiness for a sweet but quite flavorful pint.
Further Personal Perceptions :
-A ring of foam circles the blackness with dark brown hues.
-The low carbonation makes the sugars feel bigger.
-This is rather drinkable but it is obviously brewed to suit North Americans’ tastes for bolder brews. This is richer than any authentic Schwarzbier I’ve had.
-Mouthfeel is slick and silky.
On tap at Coffee District, Delray Beach.

Served on draft at Mekong Richmond, VA. Pours a clear very dark brown head with a thin creamy tan head. Decent head retention. Aroma of roasted malts, chocolate and nutty notes. The taste is very similar with some berries and bitter hops. Medium bodied, well balanced. Nice beer.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Tap at CCB. Deep brown to ruby with no head. Nose is sharper coffee roast and dark cherries. Taste follows suit: heavy baked cherries followed by heavy coffee and roasted malt. Medium mouthfeel with good bitterness. Easy to drink. Heavy coffee presence. Successful.

On draught at Freshcraft during the Cigar City Reception. Black pour with some brown around the edges and a medium tan head that recedes steadily. Aroma of toasted malt, pine and hops. Light-bodied with a sweet roasted malt and resiny hops flavor. Notes of coffee and chocolate as well. The finish is roasty with an herbal hops aftertaste. Pretty good overall.
