3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Draft at Rattle ’N’ Hum. Solid deep brown body with a smaller white head. The aroma reminded me of the inside of a Dunkin Donuts, artificial vanilla syrup combined with chocolate and coffee notes. Slightly thin body with softer carbonation. The flavor is a combination of vanilla coffee and a chocolate toffee bar. Although this was one of my least favorites of the night it’s still better then about 90% of the other craft bers out there.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
A: The pour is a dark brown color with some nice red highlights and a small tan head.
S: A sniff of this one gives you a nosefull of incredibly sweet vanilla. I was expecting some subtlety (a la Stone Smoked Porter with Vanilla), but this is very bold. There’s a slight roasted and toasted malt aroma to this as well.
T: The flavor is almost exactly like the nose. The sweet vanilla is once again the star (as you would expect/hope). There is a slight roasted coffee note to it, along with the same nutty, toasted biscuit malt character that was in the nose.
M: The body is medium with some low to moderate carbonation (probably due to the filling and shipping processes).
D: As previously mentioned, I was expecting just a hint of vanilla, but was actually quite surprised by the amount of vanilla. My only complaint was the level of sweetness that it provided, but otherwise I found it to be quite nice.

Tap at Rattle n Hum. Vanilla bourbon nose. Medium bodied a bit sweet almost cloying but a good base makes this pretty drinkable.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Tap at Rattle n Hum: Deep amber pour with a fading off white head. Mild toasted barley in the aroma. Coffee-like roast is there with subtle vanilla bean. Slick body. Lots of vanilla in the flavor- but it’s not that sweet. Some toasted dark crystal malts at the fore precede a touch of subtle coffee-like roast. Balanced with a nice subtle vanilla presence. Solid.

On tap at the Rattle n’ Hum Cigar City event (thanks John). Deep brown pour with a red hue. Great aroma of vanilla extract, dark chocolate, and oak. More bourbon in the nose as it warms. Flavor has cigar box smokiness, sweet vanilla, and cocoa beans. A really nice roasty finish with a bit of smoke lingering. Cigar City is really twisting some of my previous conceptions of beer because they do a really stellar job of vanilla and bourbon aging.

On tap at CIgar CIty takes NYC event at Rattle ’N’ Hum. Raters at my table were not so oy-yoy-yoy about the vanilla, but I appreciated its edge and smoothness.
