growler thanks to mar. i think my ratings on this were a little harsh. i remember it being better than my rating reflects. dont ask me why. poured a ruby color with an off white head and some spotted lacing. aroma of caramel, toasted grains, vanilla, and a nutty character. flavor followed the nose very well with the addition of some nice bittering. palate had a pleasant dryness to it.

Dark amber to brown color; clear. Aroma of caramel and vanilla candies. Vanilla chocolate flavor, some roasted malts, smooth mouthfeel. Not impressive.

2009-10-17, draught at New Beers Distributors, New York, 6-4-7-3-14=34
Hazy brown color. The aroma is quite dusty. Caramel flavor, dry initially, more full bodied later. Correct bitterness, no vanilla. Good Brown Ale, nothing special.

UPDATED: AUG 10, 2009 32oz growler shared by kp at the Brick Store, tasted side-by-side with the Espresso Maduro. Pours a deep, clear copper brown with a short-lived bubbly tan head that recedes to a small ring leaving very little lacing. The aroma is much sweeter than the original Maduro and the vanilla really shines through in tandem with the underlying caramel malts. The hops are less prevalent than in the original as well, but the signature tobacco aroma can still be detected in the nose. The taste is close to the aroma and starts out very sweet with the vanilla, caramel and chocolate carrying the front of the taste. There is a toasted malt backbone that shows through in the middle, though the sweetness has overrun it a bit and the finish is slightly dry with the tobacco and some nuts coming out. The mouthfeel is very smooth with low carbonation, probably due to the growler. It’s fairly full bodied. This is another solid offering from CCB though I probably prefer the original Maduro to this one. It’s definitely sweeter and less roasty, but this coffee-lover prefers the espresso version in the head-to-head as well.

Draft sample at Cigar City. Poured a clear brown color with an average frothy brown head that mostly lasted with excellent lacing. Moderate to heavy toasted malt and dark vanilla aroma. Medium to full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. Medium to heavy cocoa and vanilla sweet flavor with a medium to heavy sweet finish of moderate duration. Solid complex brew.
