3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
One of a million CCB samples shared by the powerful Tampa Crew. Thanks for all the ratings Iím about to enter, Greg and Justin! Some of the Maduros Iíve had can be on the thinner, lighter side, and this is certainly one of them. Decent enough malty brown ale character at base, but the nose gives away a relative one-dimensionality here. The vanilla was just a bit too sharp, elbowing other things to the side rather than getting along with the malts.

Pours a light brown with a thing light tan head. Nose is sweet, malty, caramel, super vanilla presence, tad one dimensional. Flavor shows lots of vanilla, sweet, some grain astringency. Sweet palate. Vanilla dominated overall.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
So wonderful to find this one on draught at Cigar City Brewing (Tampa, FL): Pours amber brown with a small off-white head. Aroma of roasted vanilla bean, soft maple syrup rather than caramel, bitter coffee bean, oak wood, and lots of roasted bitters. Flavors are similar. You can really bite into that malt. Thin body, thick tastes. Alcohol hidden well. Drinkability: Simply put, itís the taste of swagger. Rebuy: Yes. #252 on 23012010, DG.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Growler courtesy of Wilkes from the brewery. Deep red-brown pour a small light tan head that leaves a ring. Strong vanilla, caramel and nut aroma. Taste is a toasty version of the aroma with the vanilla dominating. Slick and creamy (if itís possible) medium texture. Havenít had the regular Maduro yet to compare it to - didnít knock my sock off, but good.

Dark amber to brown color; clear. Aroma of caramel and vanilla candies. Vanilla chocolate flavor, some roasted malts, smooth mouthfeel. Not impressive.
2009-10-17, draught at New Beers Distributors, New York, 6-4-7-3-14=34
Hazy brown color. The aroma is quite dusty. Caramel flavor, dry initially, more full bodied later. Correct bitterness, no vanilla. Good Brown Ale, nothing special.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Draft sample at Cigar City. Poured a clear brown color with an average frothy brown head that mostly lasted with excellent lacing. Moderate to heavy toasted malt and dark vanilla aroma. Medium to full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. Medium to heavy cocoa and vanilla sweet flavor with a medium to heavy sweet finish of moderate duration. Solid complex brew.
