4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pretty good British brown, although I do seem to pick up a bit of tartness that doesn’t belong. Poured at a good temperature with a modest, lite brown, foamy, thick head that soon all but disappears and no lace. Color is an almost clear amber brown with some bubble trails. Aroma is a very fragrant malt, nutmeats, cocoa, toffee, bit of roast. Flavor’s like nose and very we’ll balanced. The off tartness vanishes with a little time. Body/carbonation are about perfect. Finish is like flavor, has a few medicinal qualities that linger, and is overall very drinkable.

CBC Yellow Session. Keg. Almost clear amber beer, small cream colour head. Palate is smooth and semi dry, mild fine carbonation. Caramel malts, trace of cardboard. Modest tangy fruits Light dry finish. Passable but disappointing.

Can from Amersin. This beer lives up to everything it declares about itself. Rich malty aroma, chocolate, plums, roasted notes. Slight tobacco. Clear dark brown colour. Only flaw in this beer is cosmetic, quickly disappearing head. But the beer remains easily drinkable, indeed silky mouthfeel. Lots of malty complexity going on, chocolate, caramel, biscuity, dark malts. And this all while remaining at a session level both in ABV and flavour intensity - not overwhelming. Very good.

On tap at Rattle and Hum, NYC. Chocolatey aroma with a blend of citrusy hops, dried fruit, and raspberries. Hazy mahogany under a tan collar. Sweet hazelnut flavour with dry nuts and dried fruit. Moderate bitterness and moderate doughnut shop coffee accent. Medium light body, moderate carbonation, almost crisp.

355ml can brought to me from Florida. Pours a deep, mahogany brown with a full and aggressive head. Nose is weak, but has some chocolate, roasted malts, and caramel. Taste is caramel, toffee, roasted malts, wood. Almost tastes barrel aged. Clean palate with little aftertaste, but enough to remind you how great it was. A wonderful example of a brown ale. I’m very impressed with this one, and can’t wait to get my hands on more of Cigar City’s offerings.

Crowler from the brewery via Christine (thanks!). Deep brown with a thin tan head. Richly nutty and a bit fruity, chocolate, roasted malt, a touch watery, lightly sweet with limited bitterness. Not bad.
