A nice head that fades quick. The aroma is of toffee, carmel, lite chocolate, and dried fruit. The flavor has carmel, malts, oats, chocolate, and hazelnuts. The finish sweet and bitter. There is also some roasted tones. My palate was not negatively hit. This beverage was rather kind to it. Overall I enjoy the Maduro.

Reviewed 1/29/13.
Thanks to Momar42 for the can! 12 oz can poured into a Duvel tulip.
A: Pours a hazy dark burgundy color. The head is a gorgeously textured one finger offwhite color - shame it fades so quickly. It leaves a modicum of lacing on the glass.
S: There’s a dark fruit note to it that sets it apart from the more dry/bitter browns out there. Concentration of the aromatic senses will yield some light chocolate, hazelnut, and unroasted coffee, as well.
T: This could almost pass for a porter at times. There’s an initial flavor of coffee (this time taking more of a roasted quality than in the nose) and oats, before transitioning to caramel, chocolate, and hazelnut on the midtaste and finish. After it warms up slightly, I notice a slight twinge of earthy hops. Rather simple in its flavor profile, but what’s here works very well.
M: Not fully creamy, likely due to the strong carbonation. The latter quality gives the beer a light and airy dryness to counteract the smooth, syrupy finish. Very wet on the aforementioned finish and aftertaste otherwise. Perhaps not as easy to drink as it could be, though - the sweetness gets to be a bit much at times.
O: Cigar City could have called this an oatmeal porter and I wouldn’t have batted an eyelash. That’s a compliment. It’s a bit too sweet to be a quick drinker, but it’s richness belies its 5.5% ABV. Would make a great dessert beer.

12 oz. can to Chimay goblet, classic brown with a smidge of red, good clarity to the body, besmearched with a small bit of brownish-white head which vacates quickly. Nose of roasted oatmeal and a bit of iced coffee not particularly overwhelming and I don’t expect it to be a in a brown ale. Medium to full mouthfeel, moderate to low carbonation, very easy drink which I do expect in a brown. Tastes of caramel, malt, just a bit of hop presence to round things out. Not the most exciting style but there are a few nice examples out there, this one would crack my top three browns if there was such a thing.

Pours a hazy root beer color with little to no head. Dry finish and definite tobacco notes, with chocolate and almost toffee tones. I would not drink a bunch of these in a setting but one is nice in the evening.

Bottle. Brown with huge head. Very interesting nose - some wood, vanilla, green tobacco leaves. Molasses, brown malt. Body is medium, well carbonated. Some soft roasted tones, cocoa beans. Quite dry. Very tasty.

Extra in a trade - thanks Brian! Thanks also to cold-ass MN winter for this beer being perfectly chilled for consumption upon arrival! Malty, roasty, just enough bitterness to balance. A solid brown ale for sure, would love to try some of the variations!

12oz bottle thanks to CruisaC, thanks man. Soft brown color with a quickly disappating head. Aroma is ok, mostly malt and a touch of sugar. Flavor is about the same. Decent beer but nothing I’d go seeking out a second time. Still, I was thankful to get the opportunity to tick this.

Can thanks to changeup45. Pours a reddish brown with barely a head. Says it pairs well with a cigar. I can see that but unfortunately no cigar on my end. Slightly watery taste but silky mouth feel. One of the better brown ales.
