A hearty brown ale that benefits from the silky mouthfeel provided by oatmeal, pairs great with Cigars.

First try from Cigar City via secret online resource. -Hmmm...for me, this is quite underwhelming. I understand this wasn’t brewed to be so "in your face," but I find it thin and not very interesting. I’m not worried, I know Cigar City has excellent stuff and I have a small sample of their lineup in my fridge. So, this is ordinary--enough said.

Cigar City’s Maduro sets high expectations with its name. A Brown Ale that can stand up to a cigar? For breweries that aren’t Cigar City this would be a rather tall order. Not so with this idiotically good Brown Ale. There’s nothing weak about it. Dark brown pour with touches of red in the light. Cocoa, coffee, and toasted grain aromas. Hazelnut, chocolate, roasted caramel, vanilla, cream, and coffee flavor notes. For the style, the amount of depth is remarkable. Velvety smooth, rich feel with a bit of trailing warmth. It’s ridiculously well done.

Keg @Borefts 2016. Pours brown thin beige head. Nose is raisin and chocolate cake. Taste is chocolate, slight coffee, some slight brett style funk? It has a kind of creme brullee thing going on.
