Black pour. Brown head. Bourbon jumps out of the glass followed by lots of chocolate, roast, toffee, wood and vanilla. Flavor is up front bourbon with vanilla, toffee, roast, coffee and bitter chocolate. God damn, another amazing CCB stout. Kudos to Joe and Wayne and company!

UPDATED: NOV 23, 2011 32oz, waxed, growler from Hunahpu’s Day 2011 labeled as Four Roses Bourbon Barrel Aged Zhukov ’10 courtesy of mlunger12. thanks, matt! decided the pop this one in celebration of L.J. matching into ENT! pours a gorgeously imposing, crude-oil thick black with a short, creamy, dark, rusted-brown head leaving slick, oily legs and a ring of lace that lasts the entire glass . aroma is incredible with huge, bittersweet, dark chocolate, fresh oak, vanilla, and rich bourbon backed by toasted coconut, heavy roasted malts, vanilla, and black coffee with a touch of cedar, cigar ash, and dark fruits as it warms. flavor is one of the most mind-blowing beer experiences i’ve had to date with massive roasted malts, bittersweet dark chocolate, and woody, spicy, bourbon that integrates into the beer so well it’s unreal and allows the subtle notes of vanilla, coconut cream, and oak shine through at midpalate before the rich, roasted coffee, dark fruits, pipe tobacco, and brownie crusts of the base Zhukov’s take over on the finish. palate is super rich, oily in the mouth, and perfectly carbonated with a relentless finish of charred malts, bourbon, and dark chocolate. overall, one of the most oustanding barrel aged beers i’ve ever tasted and another example of the skill and craft of CCB.

On draft at Hunahpu Day. Pours a thick black with a small tan head. Nose is straight up bourbon with huge sweetness, vanilla, and some wood. There is also the Zhukov roasted coffee, roasted malt, and some dark chocolate in there. The flavor is the same- huge bourbon presence with vanilla, dark chocolate, and bourbon. Medium-bodied finishing with lingering bourbon. Very enjoyable.

On draft at the CCB Tasting Room Grand Reopening. Wow. How many stout do you know that can kick the barrel’s ass? This is one. Pours "I’m gonna kick your ass" black brown with a dark tan head. Nose is roast, slight bourbon, earth, dark chocolate, and some slight vanilla. Flavor is very similar. A bit of barrel, but for the most part this one annihilates the sweetness that the barrel wants to give it. Like a bitter ex-girlfriend, or its namesake general, this beer takes no prisoners as its roast, bitterness, and tiny bit of barrel leave the palate wanting more and feeling experienced.

Draft... Hunahpu’s Day (2011)This beer rocks!… Tar black ale pours like 100,000 mile motor oil with a mid-sized, creamy, light brown head that never even thinks about scattering. Deep, dark chocolate and Cuban espresso are the true standouts in the aroma, although slighter notes of vanilla and cinnamon are definitely in the mix. Rich, robust and authoritative is the nose on this baby. Full-bodied and super velvety with gentle carbonation. The flavor is bittersweet and provides a shit-ton of burnt, bitter, black malt and carbonaceous/caramelized sweetness. In simpler terms, this ambrosia tastes like a campfire-roasted marshmallow when you get a little overzealous and literally set that bad boy on fire, blow out the flames, and then eat it. Delicious. Bittersweet, mocha, charcoal finish. World class stuff!
