4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 dionysus (1443) - Arizona, USA - MAY 19, 2011
Shared by Daknole during his Final4 tasting. Bottle pours black with a beige head. Aroma shows notes of dark chocolate, heavy roasted malt, vanilla, bourbon and a hint of dark fruit. Flavor shows the same with additional notes of oak and molasses covered marshmallows. This thing was definately a beast! Thanks Dak as usual!

On Draft at Hunahpu’s Day. This was the ’Four Roses’ version. Pours black with little to no head. Aroma is chocolate malt, bourbon, vanilla, molasses, and coffee. the taste is bourbon, molasses, dark chocolate, burnt wood, and vanilla. Full body with great head. This is awesome...very comparable to Double Barrel Zhukovs.

Sampled at Tryst in Delray Beach
A: Scary ass pour...pitch black, thick as oil - sheets of beer coat the glass, big brown cap.
S: Bourbon (but very well balanced, not hot or boozy), oak/wet wood, lots of vanilla, amazingly complex. Light underlying sweetness (not Hunaphu sweet though) + fudge and cocoa
T: More bourbon than the nose, but still kept balanced, big fudge and chocolate, cocoa, bitterness. Very well rounded and the flavors all play off each other well.
MF: Monster body on this - one of the thicker stouts I’ve had, carbonation was spot on considering the growler pour a few days after
Notes: Glad to have tried this one! Wish I sampled the brandy version as well.

Bottle courtesy bret27. Pours black as ink with a super-dark brown head, might even be darker than regular Zhukov. Aromas of chocolate cookies, oak, and molasses, with a bourbon character that doesn’t take over but rather complements everything else. Flavor is still very roasty and bitter but it’s toned down compared to the base beer, which is exactly what the base beer needed. Unsweetened chocolate, oak, smooth bourbon. Mouthfeel is still rather astringent. Thick and oily on the palate. A huge, huge beer.

unbelievable! Four Rose Bourbon barrel aged. Thanks again Dak! Love the bottle. This stuff stained my glass. Smokey coffee tobacco and lots of alcohol. And of course bourbon and burn. Great palate. The mix or blend of these flavors was well balanced, I could live on this.

So super smooth. Nice sweet mellow bourbon, vanilla, faint pepper. A little roast on the taste added to the vanilla and wood. Not overdone, really good.
