Pours black with a thin head. Apple cider in the nose, chocolate, coffee, sugar daddy and an apple caramel sucker. Absolutely phenomenal aroma. Strong bitter flavors with loads of choclate, tobacco, espresso, and leather. A long lingering finish. Wonderful!

Growler sample thanks to steelcitybrew at DLD11. Oily black with a tan head. Rich brandy and roasty malts. Awesome nose. Thick creamy syruppy sweet brandy malts. So much sweet syrup and apples. A little much. 8/4/7/3/14

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
growler thanks to steelcitybrew shared at dldí11.. pours black with tan head. aroma has huge apple brandy character and not much else. could really use the big bad zhukov to make an appearance in the aroma category but i guess not. flavors again huge brandy with some dark chocolate and green apple, vanilla, long sweet finish. iíd like to try the next batch cuz I hear the first one was much better. just dominated by the apple brandy barrel.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
Growler from Drew at DLD. Thanks for the chance to try this one! Pours a deep brown black with a tan head. Nose carries a hint of oak and some cider qualities behind the burnt and cocoa notes. The oak itself is hard to find behind the odd fruitiness. Chocolate seems to be fighting the weird apple-spice thing. On taste, it is just a bit flabby and seems to have picked up some oxidation from the barrel that contributes to the negatives. I would drink this again, but it just doesnít work for me. Which is a shame. Because it sounds awesome. But isnít.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
DLD 2011, Growler shared by Drew: Basically pitch black with an oily appearance and a very good tan head. There is a big apple vapour about this brew that seems to be more than just the apple brandy barrel, it really has more of a Acetaldehyde (green apple) ester that is really a turn off. I also noted roasted and chocolate malts, some barrel vanilla and oak components, herbal hops and a hint of liquorice and leather esters. The taste again has a overwhelming apple character that dominates the sweet malts, darker fruit tones, the chocolate/vanilla/coffee base undertones of the base brew. The mouth feel is lively enough with an oily character, a bit charred and ashy. Also, unlike many of the CCB beers I had this day, this one does little to hide the alcohol, brash and abrasive. Blah, major disappointment but still nice to try.

Growler shared by drewbeerme. Thanks Drew. Pours dark with a thin head and average lacing. Aroma is brandy, apples and oak. Taste is all brandy with a strong green apple presence. Finishes very sweet. Overall a pretty good beer. Hasnít held up very well.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
32 oz growler shared by Drew. Thanks! Pours an inky thick blackish pour, decent dark dark brown head dies to a thick ring, with ok lacing. Dark and ominous. Aromas are huge Apple Brandy, oak and apple fruit, some light roast but the barrel really humps this beer into submission. Some cocoa. A little Initial is full bodied, a bit thinned, touches of acidity, green apple, cocoa, thick caramel, toffee. Some coffee, rich roast is really killed out by the Brandy barrel, wet oak, and big green apple. Finish is sweet, touches of roast, faint coffee but the barrel is just reall powerful, too powerful, completely losing the base (which is no easy feat with Zhukov). I love Zhukov and many of itís treatments, but this just isnít great. Solid points for a solid stout that just kinda is overwhelming.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Mini-growler shared generously by Ughsmash...thanks Jason! Poured like total motor oil. Aroma is a mix of coffee, brandy, vanilla and chocolate. Flavor is much of the same with some added roast. The heat of the alcohol is masked well. I think I expected more from this, but it was still a damn fine brew. Thanks again Jason!
