Growler shared by b3shine. Poured a black color with a minimal fizzy brown head that mostly lasted with fair lacing. Moderate to heavy toasted dark chocolate, vanilla, woody and apple alcohol aroma. Heavy sweet toasted sweet malt flavor with a heavy sweet and small brandy alcohol bite finish of long duration. Full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. This is a standout beer.

Black pour. Aroma of chocolate, green apples and espresso. Flavor is heavy on the green apple note, too much actually. Could have used more carbonation too. Not that it was bad, but not my favorite stout from CCB.
Earlier Rating: 3/15/2010 Total Score: 5
Wonderfully black pour with a brown head. Roast, deep dark chocolate, barrel notes, vanilla, coffee and espresso both. Flavor is sweet, rich, dark, and sinister. Amazing. Some barrel notes, chocolate, great coffee, dark roasted malt. Vanilla. Jesus, CCB knows stouts!

Draft… RBWG ‘10… This beer rocks!… Coal black ale with a mid-sized, very creamy, light brown head. The aroma is actually very subtle. At first, I can’t pull much from the glass, but a couple brisk swirls release the wonders of fruity apple brandy blended in with the usual, hearty olfactory aspects of Zhukov’s Imperial Stout – deeply roasted nuts, dark chocolate, tobacco, charcoal and blackstrap molasses. Full-bodied with a creamy mouthfeel and stinging carbonation. Delicious! Sweet, fruity apple brandy is not overdone. Melds nicely with the burnt, carbonaceous aspects of the base beer. Lengthy, singed, bittersweet finish. The bitterness lingers long after the sweetness fades away. For me, the brandy barrel works much better with the base beer (Zhukov) than the Hunahpu. Another world class beer from Wayne and Joey!

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Tap at Hunahpu 2011 as "Apple Brandy Zhukov". The pour is quite fantastic generating a much more lively Martian red head than the other treatments, or maybe someone just knew how to pour a beer. Incredible retention. Very scary looking in the cup. Aroma is so much more apple than I was expecting (DUH!), but instead of calvados or brandy per se, I get fresh apple skins, apple juice box, and sweet cider apples. Taste is lemony tart, tannic, and feels light bodied compared to the oily 4 Roses treatment. Spicy alcohol comes through for a quick second. The lemon tart and roast character remind me a little of 110K+OT #2.

UPDATED: JUN 12, 2012 Growler pour, big thanks to Jason. Got the other half of the growler, not the dredges. Aroma is amazing, notes of apples, chocolate, sweet brandy, molasses, toffee, chocolate and a touch of coffee. Taste is thick, chocolate, roasty and bitter, with notes of apple, brandy, and a nice dry bitter finish. What a fantastic, layered, delicious beer.
Big thanks to Tyler for this one. Poured sludgy, oily, thick, motor oil, however you want to put it from a growler, with thin quickly dissipating tan head. Aroma is chocolate, some more chocolate, touch of smoke, red ripe apple skins, some roast, vanilla, and some coffee. Taste is literally chocolate-y syrup, notes of some coffee, smoke, tiny touch of brandy, finishing slightly boozy and bitter. 3.8.
