The smell is brandy, grapes, chocolate, wood, alcohol, complex, wine like, and nice. The look is black, dark, good legs, with a tan head. Slightly spirit like. The taste is awesome, wine, wood, alcohol, grapes, and brandy.

growler purchased at CCB on Hunahpu’s Day - 3/12/11. pours a pitch black with a tiny tan head which quickly falls to a tan lacing. huge green apple nose with layers of raisin, fig, date, and light wood. thick body and extremely smooth throughout. this beer melds to your mouth while the apple notes fall quietly towards the back. some chocolate and roasted malt come forward a bit on the sides with some dark fruit tones on the back along with a bit of heat. light barrel notes linger. more tart apple on the finish with a bit of sweetness wrapped around chocolate coffee beans. excellent stuff!

On tap at the Hunahpu release party as a part of RBWG 2010. Wow good stuff. The brandy barrel aging is subtle but delicious. It adds a certain sweetness and alcohol to it that is more than welcome!

his was the apple brandy barrel aged. Had on tap at DLD. A: Pours incredibly thick and viscous. No head or lace, but it leaves massive stick and stains as I drank this. S: Apple brandy, some oak. Unsweetened chocolate, and roasted malts. T: The taste gets elevated to another level. Delicious milk chocolate, caramel, and the apple brandy all mix together wonderfully. There is a touch of smokey char and roasted malts on the finish. M: Thick and viscous. Heavy bodied with some chew, the carbonation is pretty low. It just coats your entire mouth and wont go way. O: Really, really good. I wish this was bottled. I’d trade a lot for it. I’m really glad that the barrel aging didn’t thin out the base beer because the thickness of MZ is one of the reasons why I liked it so much. Well done. Serving type: on-tap Reviewed on: 05-06-2012

Hand-bottle from fata2683. Forget beer-karma, this deserves beer-canonization! But, you know, without the him being dead part. Being a hand-bottle, this is nearly flat, but the quality bears it out. Nose is apple-butter, sweet oak, roast, mild chocolate, like a sun rise on a misty ,morning. Flavours are soft and velvety, rich and aplle-oaky. This rocks!

Tried this fantastic treat at the Hunahpu’s Release Party (CCB). The aroma was nice and mellow but very full . . . lot of subtleties. Noticed vanilla, dark fruit, some alcohol and butterscotch right up front on the nose. Upon tasting, a lot of these aromas were confirmed, specially got the vanilla (more so, IMO, than in the bourbon version) right up front. Also got some oak and the heat from the alcohol intensified a bit , but did not overpower or undermine the flavor. This is the perfect beer to sip with a good cigar on a cool evening.

Growler courtesy of omega x - huge thanks, Jordan! Pitch black pour with no head. Smells decadent - roasted malt, coffee, vanilla, alcohol, and brandy. It’s like a cognac coffee and it’s great. Syrupy and thick - flavors of wood, coffee, chocolate, and brandy. Really glad to have been able to try this. Can’t wait to visit Tampa again!
