Growler courtesy of omega x - huge thanks, Jordan! Pitch black pour with no head. Smells decadent - roasted malt, coffee, vanilla, alcohol, and brandy. It’s like a cognac coffee and it’s great. Syrupy and thick - flavors of wood, coffee, chocolate, and brandy. Really glad to have been able to try this. Can’t wait to visit Tampa again!

Growler shared by ygtbsm94. Thanks Brad. The beer is black with a thin, oily beige head that leaves an oily residue on the glass. The aroma offers a strong brandy presence, along with oak and roast notes. Big, bold flavor. Thick body with low carbonation. Lots of brandy presence. Palate coating. Very tasty. his was the apple brandy barrel aged. Had on tap at DLD. A: Pours incredibly thick and viscous. No head or lace, but it leaves massive stick and stains as I drank this. S: Apple brandy, some oak. Unsweetened chocolate, and roasted malts. T: The taste gets elevated to another level. Delicious milk chocolate, caramel, and the apple brandy all mix together wonderfully. There is a touch of smokey char and roasted malts on the finish. M: Thick and viscous. Heavy bodied with some chew, the carbonation is pretty low. It just coats your entire mouth and wont go way. O: Really, really good. I wish this was bottled. I’d trade a lot for it. I’m really glad that the barrel aging didn’t thin out the base beer because the thickness of MZ is one of the reasons why I liked it so much. Well done. Serving type: on-tap Reviewed on: 05-06-2012

Let’s start by I had this at Hunahpu’s 2011, and while I don’t believe I have a favorite beer, this is damn near close to it; however, this years batch seemed a little bit less than last years. Still amazing though. From notes - 06/24 - snifter pour black as night, thick and viscous with a thin amber head that turns into a thin halo. Nose is rich roasted malts, dark chocolate, healthy brandy notes with oak and booze all over, heavy espresso. Flavor is similar, with brandy definitely up front, toffee/caramel and sweet roasted malt followed by a bitter chocolate and roasted espresso/coffee. This beer seriously drinks like 20 weight motor oil and it’s worth every bit. Hope I get to try it again sometime.

16 oz Swingtop Courtesy of the Cheeseman. Pours dark with small head, but coats the glass. Nutty chocolatey aroma, with hints of green apple and pipe tobacco. Sweet with nice roast characteristics, at times reminding me of a bowl of black cavendish pipe tobacco. Long finish, full with the sweetness perfectly countered by the hop and roast bitterness.

Dark black body. No head, only the faintest skim, no lacing. Nose is roasted malts, chocolate, coffee, and apple brandy. Eh. Flavor isn’t particularly impressive. A bit muddled and conflicted. Full bodied, slightly boozy, flabby finish. Not the best Marshal Z treatment I’ve had.

Growler shared by b3shine. Poured a black color with a minimal fizzy brown head that mostly lasted with fair lacing. Moderate to heavy toasted dark chocolate, vanilla, woody and apple alcohol aroma. Heavy sweet toasted sweet malt flavor with a heavy sweet and small brandy alcohol bite finish of long duration. Full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. This is a standout beer.

Growler to snifter (thanks drowland). Looks good; pitch black and viscous with low carbonation and thin lacing. Smells AMAZING! I was gonna give it a 9, but fuck it; shit doesn’t get better than this. Tastes phenomenal too. Great mouthfeel. YES!!!

Pours a deep dark black with no head. Aroma of roasty chocolate and brandy. Taste follows, chocolatey, chewy and amazing. So so good ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
