4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours a viscous, deep black color with a red tan head. Aroma has a ton of dark fruit, brandy, light chocolate, light cigar and a very hefty alcohol bite. Flavor is extremely complex. Flavor starts off with a very hefty cigar and brandy flavor. This smoothly transitions to a chocolate syrup flavor and finishes with more smooth brandy, licorice and caramel maltiness. The body on this is probably the heavies I have ever had. You can almost feel the grains of sugar in the beer. Almost zero carbonation accentuates the feeling. Overall a VERY good beer. Almost two heavy for one person to enjoy a whole bottle by themselves as you feel like you may go into sugar shock. This is the way imperial stouts should be!

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
750mL bottle. Poured inky black with not much head. The aroma picked up licorice and ashy malts with plenty of roast.. strong vinous notes and a touch of bourbon around.. peppery on the back of the nose. The flavor found cocoa, licorice, and lesser vinous notes at the core.. toasted oak, vinous notes, and peppery notes around.. finished sweet and a touch tangy with full belly warmth. Heavy-bodied with low carbonation.. kind of slick on the palate.. ok feel.

In short: A heavy roasty barrel orgy with a good complexity but lacing carbonation. Good.
How: Bottle 750ml, thick yellow-waxed cap. Consumed when approximately 2 years of age. Bottle from jtclockwork, thanks a lot James.
The look: Brownish-black motor oil body with no head to speak of.
In long: Nose is overloaded with barrels with the bourbon clearly dominating the brandy. Under that barrels assault of an aroma lies some chocolaty notes. In mouth the body is as thick and viscous as a beer can be and it is cruelly lacking carbonation. Taste is roasted chocolaty malts, burnt caramel, lots of toasted wood, dried fudge cake, cacao powder, sticky resin of some kind. Surprisingly in mouth the roles are reversed and I found the brandy flavor more prevalent than the bourbon. A smooth alcohol warmth that is not bothersome. Finish is very woody and all this wood washes the sweetness away. This beer was too much of a barrel orgy for me although I suspect I could have liked it quite a bit if properly carbonated. Good at first despite its flaws but my taste buds were getting numb when drinking the second half of the bottle. Another Cigar City beer that was top-rated beer when first release, if Andy Warhol was alive today heíd say that every beer from Cigar City will have its 15 minutes in the top-50.
