Bottle. Pours with a murky deep brown body with a few stray bubbles. I am getting a bit of sediment towards the end of the bottle (Dark Lord esque sludge?). Completely coats the glass. Aromas of wood, chocolate, nougat, apple brandy, wood, graham cracker, alcohol, plums and a yeasty umami note. Flavors of wood, very dry and tannic, bourbon, ash, light smoke, dark fruits and a ton of roast. Some milk chocolate and nuts on the second sip. Bitter like the regular Zhukov. Low carbonation, and full bodied. Mouthcoating. To me, I preferred the extra character provided by the Humidor Zhukov over its other versions.

Essentially black in color with minimal tan head forming. The bourbon seems to be a bit more prominent than the brandy, which is sort of unfortunate. Quite a bit of wood and roasted malt with a bit of dark chocolate. The flavor has a more pronounced liquor character with vanilla and wood being well represented, as well as the bourbon and brandy. Lots of roast with some sweet dark chocolate and fruits. Much better than the regular Zhukov’s.

Another 750 CCB bottle shared with buds at Bill’s tasting. Had against the regular and Cedar versions of MZ. Pour was a deep dark brown with a minimal head and light ring of bubbles. Nose was mostly bourbon and molasses. Brandy comes out in the forefront taste, followed by brown sugar, vanilla and a good deal of bourbon on the finish. Medium palate with an oily mouthfeel. Still had some heat - but a nice brew overall and enjoyable to try against the others..

750 ml bottle poured a translucent dark brown with a lingering ring of brown foam. Aropmas of brandy, bourbon, oak, bitter chocolate, roasted malt and light vanilla. Palate was medium bodied and smooth. Flavors of brandy, bourbon, oak, dark chocolate, roastiness and light licorice with a smooth lingering chocolate finish.

Bottled. A pitch black beer with no head. The aroma has notes of straw, roasted malt, licquorice, and tobacco. The flavor is sweet malty with notes of roasted malt, alcohol, and tobacco, leading to a dry and alcoholic finish.

Thanks to Ethan for opening this one for your friend’s birthday. Very nice to finally try this. Pours a dark, ominous, opaque black with a dark tan head. Nose is bourbon first and foremost followed by chocolate, espresso, oak, vanilla, and booze. Flavor has roast mixed in with the layers of bourbon, espresso, vanilla, bourbon/ whiskey, and wood. This is a bit boozy, but many nuanced layers of chocolate, coffee, roast, wood, and whiskey churn over themselves and emerge randomly like a room wallpapered by Willy Wonka. A cornucopia of imperial stout flavors in a silky mouthfeel and a bit bourbon/ boozy on the palate.

750ml bottle with a big thanks to GodOfThunder, thanks dude! Pours an inky pitch black with a minimal dark brown head. Aroma is big on the barrel, with heavy roast, some espresso and char. Flavor follows the nose with more barrel, sticky, sweet and roast. This one was interesting but just a little too far over the edge.

750ml, yellow-waxed bottle, crushed as beer #2 of the imperial stout countdown to rating #1000, courtesy of smith4498. thanks so much, jason! damn am i glad to be drinking this one...bottled opened with just a whisper and pours a rich, silky jet black into my CCB snifter with the only trace of carbonation being a ring of dark, mocha bubbles around the edges that leave rusty, oily sheets of lace. aroma is stunning with huge notes of fudge brownies, cacao chocolate, and rich, roasted espresso balanced by heavy bourbon, oak, vanilla, and dark fruit notes of prune and raisin with the elegant notes of apple brandy, molasses, and sweet port coming to the forefront as it warms. flavor is nothing short of sublime, complex, and elegant as hell with huge roasted malts, dark chocolate, espresso, and charred wood up front backed by a masterful melange of rich oaked bourbon and sweet, fruity brandy with subtle notes of black cherry, vanilla, pralines, and ash on the back end. palate is silky smooth and finishes rich, roasty and dry with just a trace of carbonation but who the hell needs it when the beer is this damn good. overall, what can i say? CCB does it again with another world class imperial stout.
