This Russian Imperial Stout is dedicated to Gregory Zhukov. Arguably one of World War IIís finest generals and a man bold enough to appreciate the rich, complex flavors of a beer brewed to fortify a body through the Russian winter. Like military geniuses, Russian Imperial Stouts reach their peak with a little age on them, so we release Marshal Zhukovís Russian Imperial Stout in sweltering August so that it will be at peak flavor come January or February. <P> Opaque black in color, the aroma has notes of espresso, chocolate, dark sweet toffee with hints of black strap molasses. The flavor starts with an unsweetened chocolate character and supporting notes of herbal dryness from English hop varietals. It then moves into dark toffee sweetness and closes with a slap of roasty espresso. Zhukovís Imperial Stout pairs well with Mushroom Solyanka, dark chocolate, cherries and ground wars in Russia. Enjoy, comrade.

Drank during the tasting the 08-05. Very nice beer. Rich. Sweet and dark. Intense taste explosion. Not typical sweetness, but rich, balanced, coffee and chocolate as well, also alcohol taste pretty present.

2013 bottle, courtesy of MeadMe. Pours a dark brown, near black with a deep rising mocha colored head. Good retention and nice legs! Aromas are of dark fruits, molasses, earth, chocolate and booze. Taste is much more balanced than the nose suggested. Loads of chocolate, vanilla, dark fruits and molasses. Heavy mouth feel and very oily on the palate. Finishes with a nice dose of milk chocolate and toffee that masks the alcohol very well without being overly sweet. Really good stuff.

22oz bottle pours oily viscous black with small dark tan head. Nose has rich bitter roast dark chocolate, vanilla, marshmallow, dark fruits. Taste is thick bodied, creamy dark fruits, roasty cocoa with some dark malt fruit, bitter sweet chocolate. On the sweeter side. Finishes sweet with dark hershey syrup, charred chocolate, dark fruits, molasses. Big, rich and tasty.

Pour at the Vendome Pasadena bottle share - thanks Lon! Thick black pour with a slight tan head. Very thick and decadent. Sweet chocolate goodness in the finish. Very well done.

UPDATED: NOV 28, 2015 Wow this is good. Pours black with a dark brown head almost as dark as the beer. Aromas of chocolate, coffee and licorice. Malty sweetness chocolate coffee and licorice flavors. Thick as motor oil. One of the best beers i have ever had. I wish they had this in Ohio.

Beer #13 of 13 in blind tasting.
Finally the end! Finished on a high note. Pours thick with dark brown head. Slight autolysis. Thick but not off putting alcohol. Sweet chocolate really sets this apart. My second highest rated blind beer.
In the aggregate, it was #1 but basically as good as Blvd Dark Truth and Lagunitas.
