This Russian Imperial Stout is dedicated to Gregory Zhukov. Arguably one of World War IIís finest generals and a man bold enough to appreciate the rich, complex flavors of a beer brewed to fortify a body through the Russian winter. Like military geniuses, Russian Imperial Stouts reach their peak with a little age on them, so we release Marshal Zhukovís Russian Imperial Stout in sweltering August so that it will be at peak flavor come January or February. <P> Opaque black in color, the aroma has notes of espresso, chocolate, dark sweet toffee with hints of black strap molasses. The flavor starts with an unsweetened chocolate character and supporting notes of herbal dryness from English hop varietals. It then moves into dark toffee sweetness and closes with a slap of roasty espresso. Zhukovís Imperial Stout pairs well with Mushroom Solyanka, dark chocolate, cherries and ground wars in Russia. Enjoy, comrade.

Thick, black, superb stout. Viscous mouth with lots of chocolate and roasted malt notes, great balance and no hint of the booze until youíre drunk at the end of a glass. Why else would I pick this name?

Cant say that this is one of my favs. Its taste and mouthfeel arent special, maybe even a bit less than id expect of a famous stout. The aroma is very nice and complex however, and this comes back in the palate. Too bad the taste is so overwhelmingly sweet and burnt bitter in a way I don't like. -RoyB, Amsterdam

Awesome Beer. Pours dark black with a nice tan head. This thing is like a milkshake. Very thick. It is everything a RIS should be. It doesnt get much better than this. If you havent had this beer, get it immediately.

Bottle, 2012 vintage. Pours motor oil black with a medium dark black head and nice lacing. Aroma is cocoa, coffee, dark roasted malts, dark chocolate, a bit of anise. Flavor is the same, medium sweet, medium bitter, some molasses. Not much anise expressed in the flavor, fortunately. Full body, super amazing creamy.

Super black with the brownest head i have ever seen. Big dark chocolaty nose. Slightly boozy flavor, lots of chocolate again but it is tempered by a good dose of roasty bitterness. Huge delicious beer.

Black as night, mild tan head. Sticky tan lace gets summoned from the depths with each swirl. Leaves remnants of its presence in my glass which cannot simply be rinsed out with water: Zhukov requires a brush or sponge to remove.

Deep, roasty, caramelized grain hits my nose. Luscious, plenty of depth. Massive, yet silky body coats my mouth with every sip. Why can't all stouts copy this mouthfeel?

Brazenly roasted malts, dark chocolate, hints of bitter coffee greet my palate. Toffee and molasses on the back end. Mild warmth as I swallow. An excellent example of a straightforward RIS.

Comes on a tiny bit hot, not much at all though and I get an initial splash of coffee and toffee. Vanilla slithers its way in after the toffee and it ends with probably my favorite finish of any beer yet. Absolutely incredible, a finish of dark chocolate covered cherries... a sort of dark chocolate black cherry flavor. The finish of this beer is so incredible, I have to say it probably is the best finish and aftertaste of any beer Iíve had, at least any stout hands down.

Delicious aroma - fruit, bitter dark chocolate, roast. Oily pour, inky and opaque, so-so label on 750ml wine-type bottle. Very rich, nicely roasty without being charred, mellow sweetness, good hopping without being overly-aggressive. Very mouthy, long roast finish with cocoa. Purchased from an undisclosed Tallahassee location - per the store manager, "This doesnít exist."

Pours dark like motor oil with a very slight dark brown head. There is not a noticeable aroma however this beer has a strong presence of dark chocolate and roasted espresso.

Draft into a snifter at the brewery. Malty fruity sweet aroma. Pours very dark with a thin dark tan head. Smooth and sweet. Date, molasses, cocoa, toffee, booze, velvet. Thick with a sticky sweet lasting finish.
