COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This Russian Imperial Stout is dedicated to Gregory Zhukov. Arguably one of World War IIís finest generals and a man bold enough to appreciate the rich, complex flavors of a beer brewed to fortify a body through the Russian winter. Like military geniuses, Russian Imperial Stouts reach their peak with a little age on them, so we release Marshal Zhukovís Russian Imperial Stout in sweltering August so that it will be at peak flavor come January or February. <P> Opaque black in color, the aroma has notes of espresso, chocolate, dark sweet toffee with hints of black strap molasses. The flavor starts with an unsweetened chocolate character and supporting notes of herbal dryness from English hop varietals. It then moves into dark toffee sweetness and closes with a slap of roasty espresso. Zhukovís Imperial Stout pairs well with Mushroom Solyanka, dark chocolate, cherries and ground wars in Russia. Enjoy, comrade.

UPDATED: FEB 6, 2012 Bottle at Darkness Day 2011. Pour is OIL. Love that. Malt, wood and chocolate in the aroma. Maybe some licorice too. Slightly bittersweet but a really great tasting beer.

Tap at the source. Black thick espresso colored head. Nose is fresh espresso, dark chocolate, leafy hops. Taste is espresso, dark chocolate, baked bread, cannabis, ash. Bitter hoppy finish. Very thick creamy mouthfeel.

Black as oil with a thick brown head. Deep aromas of molasses, coffee, cocoa, and caramel. Low carbonation but big mouthfeel. Strong espresso and unsweetened chocolate. Finish is smooth, sweet, and strong.

Comes on a tiny bit hot, not much at all though and I get an initial splash of coffee and toffee. Vanilla slithers its way in after the toffee and it ends with probably my favorite finish of any beer yet. Absolutely incredible, a finish of dark chocolate covered cherries... a sort of dark chocolate black cherry flavor. The finish of this beer is so incredible, I have to say it probably is the best finish and aftertaste of any beer Iíve had, at least any stout hands down.

UPDATED: FEB 2, 2014 Rating 1500 Bottle from 2011 Pitch black. A small dark brown head. Didn t see many brews this dark. Like a black oil, very siropy. What a bomb of chocolate and coffee. The roasted malts are bittering in the end, but nothing overwhelming. Better as hoped, even one of my favorites.

Very dark black pour with a dark tan head. Very roasty aromas, coffee, cocoa, even some toasted oak notes (even though it isnít barrel aged whoa), toffee, and caramel as well. Flavor is sweet roasted malt upfront with cocoa and molasses as well. Smooth and rich finish. So well balanced and complex. One of the best Imperial Stouts I have ever had. Thanks for sharing the CCB bottles Tyler!

Do not know why I have not rated this before. Bottom line here is that MZ is the king of Non-BA imperial stouts. This color is Knockout black with a beautiful head. The chocolate, cofeee, molasses, malty goodness on the nose is second to none. The viscosity coats the glass and leaves a stain you wont believe. The palate is creamy malty chocolate deliciousness. This is a fantastic Imperial Stout.

Viscous black pour with a warm brown head. Molasses, burnt sugar, cocoa nibs, vanilla, black coffee, floral and herbal hops. Roasted malt sweetness balanced with unsweetened chocolate bitterness. Thick, chewy, full-bodied, with a pleasant sweet/bitter finish. Alcohol peeps out now and then, but is unobtrusive. Fantastic imperial stout, I salute the Marshal.
