COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This Russian Imperial Stout is dedicated to Gregory Zhukov. Arguably one of World War IIís finest generals and a man bold enough to appreciate the rich, complex flavors of a beer brewed to fortify a body through the Russian winter. Like military geniuses, Russian Imperial Stouts reach their peak with a little age on them, so we release Marshal Zhukovís Russian Imperial Stout in sweltering August so that it will be at peak flavor come January or February. <P> Opaque black in color, the aroma has notes of espresso, chocolate, dark sweet toffee with hints of black strap molasses. The flavor starts with an unsweetened chocolate character and supporting notes of herbal dryness from English hop varietals. It then moves into dark toffee sweetness and closes with a slap of roasty espresso. Zhukovís Imperial Stout pairs well with Mushroom Solyanka, dark chocolate, cherries and ground wars in Russia. Enjoy, comrade.

UPDATED: MAR 1, 2010 (Bottle) Pours super black with a dark brown head. One of the blackest beers I have ever laid my eyes on. The aroma is heavily roasted and medium to heavily hoppy with tones of coffee, gunpowder, cocoa, dry molasses, tar, burned rubber, herbs and pine. Quite salty with light fruity undertones. Some vanilla and floral honey. The flavour is light sweet, medium to heavily bitter and light acidic. Super roasted with notes of coffee, cocoa, tar, asphalt and gunpowder. The mouthfeel is fat, round and light oily. Light to medium bodied. Roasted and piny finish. Near full bodied. Wow, a cool beer, still more aggressive than complex.

Bottle. Pretty much black in color with a barely and head. What is there is a speckles of cinnamon color on top of the beer. Aroma is licorice forward with some toffee. Flavor is chocolate, slight dark fruit, and finishes with a subtle smokiness. Long finish. Fairly heavy mouthfeel. The light carbonation really works for this beer.

2011-03-04. Headless syrupy black body coats the glass. 3+ Rich malty aroma with brief espresso touches, good dose of a stereotypical "Imperial Stout" character that reminds me favourably of a homebrew I did with Blankboy ages ago. oily malt and alcohol, mild dusty cocoa. 7+ Flavour has a sweet malty core, dry roast overtones, sweet cocoa in the flavour, hints at sweet coffee like character. Rich sweet malt sits somewhat heavily with not enough carbonation to buoy it. 7+ Smooth full bodied palate. Rather good. I could not find the nuance in it that other ratings describe, but what it lacked in novelty or subtlety it made up for in density of flavour. Rich. Bottle shared by Blankboy

750ml bottle in a snifter. Pours black with a tan head. Aroma of chocolate cream, roasted malts, and a little coffee with some hops. A very thick, sweet, chocolaty beer. Thick texture. A great beer.

Bottle courtesy of James, shared w Andy, James, Streets. Pours black with a winey hue and light, violet-brown head. Lacing leaves glass looking like a dirty windshield. Aroma is chocolate and licorice, palate is dark chocolate and cherries. Heavy and full-bodied with an overall chalkiness or sediment (which I canít see due to color).

Pours pitch black with a very dark mocha head...this is about the darkest, thickest impy Iíve seen yet and has the darkest head...poured like used motor oil...great lacing and good retention. Aroma is roasty with notes of dark fruit and caramel...a bit of very dark bitter chocolate. Flavor has very dark bitter chocolate...very roasty and hoppy...spicy hops...coffee notes, just a bit of dark fruit...fig...very sweet and very hoppy and bold at the same time. Mouthfeel is very heavy and full...viscous...and the finish is super roasty and dry with a note of espresso.

Draft at Caponeís with james, tony, and andrew. Pours a pitch black with a thin mocha head. Flavors are heavy on the espresso and coffee. Slight chocolate notes. Thinner mouthfeel for a stout.

Bottle shared by Maekchu. The craziest, hugest, blackest head I have ever seen on a beer. Simple mind-boggling! Nose of coffee, chocolate, wood, minerals. Nice but not all that special. Burnt, thick, sweet flavor of roasty wood ash. Sweet and nice but not so complex. HUGE bodyóthick as hell. The heaviest beer I have ever tried to drink! This is a fun, crazy beer. Basically decent, but the appearance and body are extremely unique.
