Commercial Description:
This Russian Imperial Stout is dedicated to Gregory Zhukov. Arguably one of World War II’s finest generals and a man bold enough to appreciate the rich, complex flavors of a beer brewed to fortify a body through the Russian winter. Like military geniuses, Russian Imperial Stouts reach their peak with a little age on them, so we release Marshal Zhukov’s Russian Imperial Stout in sweltering August so that it will be at peak flavor come January or February. <P> Opaque black in color, the aroma has notes of espresso, chocolate, dark sweet toffee with hints of black strap molasses. The flavor starts with an unsweetened chocolate character and supporting notes of herbal dryness from English hop varietals. It then moves into dark toffee sweetness and closes with a slap of roasty espresso. Zhukov’s Imperial Stout pairs well with Mushroom Solyanka, dark chocolate, cherries and ground wars in Russia. Enjoy, comrade.

On tap at Capone’s. Black color with tome carbonation but a short lived head. Aroma was chocolate, coffee malty heavy finish. Not really any surprises here, but is a very good impy.

Wow, this stuff is AMAZING, may be the best I have tried so far. Grabbed a bottle while in Orlando, wish I would have gotten more. Jet black pour, tan head. Smell of molasses, smoke, tinge of the booze. No booze in the fantastic taste however. Malts, nuts and molasses with a hint of hop BALANCE. Goodness its good! I envy you guys in Tampa and Florida where this can be found!

Bottle shared by dakine -- thanks, neighbor! Pours black with a reddish brown head. Smells surprisingly rich with hops and bakers cocoa. Tastes of each with further notes of dark cocoa, molasses, and coffee roast. The hops really make this beer shine. Well done.

Pours pitch black and completely opaque with a a two finger frothy dark mocha/coffee colored head with good retention, slowly fading into a lasting cap. Splotches of spotty lacing are left behind. Roasted chocolate malt aroma with hints of espresso/coffee bean, sweet milk and dark chocolate, licorice, molasses, honey as well as some subtle earthy hops. Not overly roasty with a good balance of sweet chocolate. The aroma is amazing and very complex. Chewy viscous mouthfeel with a very prominent roasty character and tons of sweet silky chocolate maltiness. Lots of deep roasted cofee/espresso bean flavor up front and dry earthy hops with some pine character. This is countered by a silky dark and milky chocolate presence mid palate and a lot of rosted malt, molasses and burnt toast flavor. More roasty espresso and coffe bean presence in the finish. I thought that this beer would be a bit sweeter but it is very dry, bitter and roasty and the hop profile is much more dominant than I would have liked. This beer is a bit rough when fresh but I feel the flavor will improve greatly with age. ABV is very well masked. It’s hard to believe it’s 11%.

750ml as a gift by the always generous BOLTZ755 – you da man J! Pours black hole black with a 3 finger reddish brown head that left slick lacing. The nose is floral hops, dark fruits, milk chocolate and alcohol. The taste is burnt malt, ashy cocoa, citrus, dark fruits and coffee. Medium creamy mouthfeel. Another great beer by CCB – really enjoyed this one. Thanks again Jason for the bottle!

This is basically identical to the Humidor Series version, except that this is slightly sweeter and of course there’s no cedar here.

Rating #100 for this, 750mL bottles thanks to some very fine folks! Poured inky, highly-viscous black with a well-set cap of dark brown head. The aroma picked up tar, molasses, and dark chocolate spiced up by pine resin, softer smoke, and a bit of honey.. warmth brought additional complexity with layers of vanilla, coffee, and scorched earth.. a touch brighter/hopper than I’d like, but still excellent. Blackstrap molasses, burnt black patent malts, and coffee lay it on thick in the flavor department from the very beginning.. pine, earth, and peppery alcohol warmth spice it up well.. the finish showcased coffee and bright pine.. dark chocolate-covered biscuits showed from the middle through the end.. tasty stuff! Heavy-bodied and syrupy on the palate.. overall quite bitter, and those components played well with the thick malt base.. lower carbonation. This was mighty good!
