4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
750ml bottled August 31, 2012. Served at cellar temperature. HUGE thanks to Mark for this treat!
Pours incredibly thick and black with without a doubt the darkest head I’ve ever seen on a stout. Leaves some lacing and recedes to a wispy cap and ring.
Aroma is really rich deep dark roasted malts, dark chocolate, espresso and gourmet coffee, dark fruits, rum-soaked raisins, figs, dates, anise, molasses, hint of smoke. Good to very good strength.
Flavor is espresso, serious coffee, dark chocolate, raisins, figs, burnt roasted malts, smoke, anise, molasses, caramel, toffee, fairly sweet, alcohol is there but fits in perfectly for a beer of this size. Unbelievably rich and complex.
Mouthfeel is full-on full-bodied, thick, chewy, sticky, eat it with a fork. Perfect.
Freakin’ fantastic. This is right up my alley. The thicker the better when it comes to Imperial Stouts...I find Ten FIDY to be a little to thin for my tastes...this one delivers. So rich. So complex. Tons of espresso and chocolate as well as boatloads of overripe dark fruits. My only bottle...I will cherish and savor this one and hope to land more in the future.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Large shared 2014 bottle in July 2016..
Lightly sweet: a better level than Surly Darkness or Dark Lord, with all 3 tried in the same tasting session.
Plenty of dark dried fruit. Lightly boozy in a way that fits the other characteristics.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
This bottled brew from a rating party poured a small sized head of foamy brown colored bubbles that were quickly diminishing and left behind a very softly carbonated opaque except at the edges dark black brown colored body and a fair lacing. The nice aroma was roasted malt dark malt and bourbon. The vinous mouth feel was tingly at the start and at the finish with a strong dark malt aftertaste. The yummy flavor contained notes of roasted malt vinous bourbon dark malt and hops. A decent one that I would consider drinking again.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Jet black pour with a thin espresso head. Aroma has a little roast and hints of chocolate. Lots of lace. Flavor hits on all the traditional RIS notes you want. Raisin, espresso and some dried fruit. Pretty sweet at first and some alcohol heat in the throat. A little metallic. Dry finish, slightly astringent.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20

Review from memory, beer shared with friends a year ago. Thick oily pour, tall espresso head with poor retention. Lots of roasted malts, dark chocolate and some coffee in the taste and aroma. An excellent RIS.
