Growler from ericandersnavy. Who apparently is trying to kill me with kindness. But what a way to go. Pours really dark brown/black with af ew transitory bubbles. Strong oak and/or bourbon aromas. Nope. Scratch the bourbon. Just oak. Med+ body. Lots of dark flavors, smooth oak. Some chocolate and coffee. It’s fairly complex. Suddenly more coffee. Excellent.

UPDATED: MAR 15, 2011 (Rating #6500) Growler... Hunahpu’s Day 2011… This beer rocks!… Pours midnight black and crude-oil thick with a small, creamy, khaki head. The aroma is a hardy combination of dark chocolate, pouch tobacco, molasses, fudge, dried dark fruits and white oak. Ultra full-bodied with soft carbonation - finally, this is one that rivals Dark Lord’s viscosity. The flavor is robust and chock-full-of mocha, singed spices and herbs, burnt black malt and dried dark fruits accompanied by a small splash of crusted port. Finishes robust, roasty, and carbonaceous – a moderate pinch of salt at the wee end. World class collaboration!

Growler thanks to Matt. Pours black with a brown head that started at the edge and remains throughout the beer. Aroma has a strong oak note with a note of roasted malts, chocolate and a hint of coffee. Flavor starts with oak and transfers to chocolate and roasted malt with a hint of dark fruit backing.

On tap Cigar City pouring up deep and dark and nice mocha head with burnt red rusty foam edges. The aroma seems to be a mix of dark berry like fruity esters, burnt malts, baker’s chocolate and some chocolate brownie. Additional pulls bring up mild levels of oak like wood spiciness. The taste comes up smooth and near silky bringing up pleasing notes of burnt malts, black licorice, chocolate and then thin layers of spicy oak and wood. Smooth and yummy brew.
