3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
750ml bottle shared at a tasting. Dark black color with a lasting tan head. Huge roasty aroma with molasses, anise, rum, and cinnamon. The flavor reminds me of a lot of of other Cigar City stouts, probably because they’re all from the same base beer (zing!). Complex with dark fruit, raisins, prunes, roast, dark chocolate, cinnamon and spice, and rum barrel. VERY heavy on the mouthfeel, insanely heavy like -bal aged Hunahpu’s or something, with low carbonation. Sticky as hell and syrupy. Pretty good beer, but I’d like it to be a bit more drinkable.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle big thanks to Steelcitybrew. pours thick black ink and pretty much no head. Nose is big strong sweet plum esters, rich chocolate, alcohol, barrel aged whiskey, sweet liquor and thick molasses. Taste is thick and rich liquor with heavy notes of barrel, fruit, sweet roasty thick malts. Body is thick and heavy. Some carbonation does it well. Really nice.

75cl, new exclusive American brew Anno 2011, with raisins and cinnamon, from De Hopduvel Gent, very complex sweet Stout, heavily roasted, spicy and fruity, yet balanced, hazy, nearly no head, very good brew, yet very expensive!

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle from the brewery. Really nice pour here; black with a thick dark brown head that slowly settles as a thin layer. Light spots of lacing that slide along the sides of the glass but don’t really stick. The aroma is very roasty with lots of milk chocolate and espresso beans. The raisin component follows with light licorice and some liquory fumes for the rum influence. Nice aroma. This is very smooth going down with a gentle alcohol burn/warmth coating the throat. The flavors are creamy with a touch of bitter roast. Again, picking up a lot of milk chocolate with some coffee notes to give it a mocha like taste. Raisins mix in to add some sweetness with lighter notes of tobacco and licorice. The rum is very much complimentary; enough there to make an impact but not strong enough to really stand out. What I don’t really seem to get much of is the cinnamon. This is a solid beer. It’s not mind blowing or anything though, a good Impy Stout. Unfortunately, I didn’t get to try the Dirac or Bohr so can’t compare this to the two base beers. I will say I can see a Marshal Zhukov influence here. Good collaboration, not that I didn’t expect it, both breweries are top notch.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Black as sin with a small, fiercely brown head, soon reduced to rim. Hops, liquorice, burnt malts, kletskoppen or cookies gone too long, coffee. Roasted coffee, quite bitter-burnt to even scorched; smoking or burnt wood. Some alcohol, giving mainly final sweetness & warmth, but surprisingly little depth, despite the hint at fusels. Very well-bodied indeed, slick and viscous, fierce alcoholwarming. Long sweet-alcoholic aftertaste. Warming up, there is a warm, peppery, fiery mouthfeel developping that is probably the cinnamon. OK, this is an above average to quite good stout. But no way, NO WAY anything about this beer justifies its ludicrous pricetag.
