750ml bottle via trade. Poured an oily pitch black body with a smaller cocoa brown head. Aroma is vert similar to World Wide Stout, dark cherries, sweet dark chocolate, barrel, dank wood, raisin and fig, dates, hint of dark rum, sugary....not loving the aroma. Flavor is way better then the aroma and more roasty and less sweet. Notes of honey, burnt toast, dark coffee, dark chocolate, dark cherries, spiced rum, dark fruits, burnt molasses, dark burnt raisins. Good stuff here.

Bottle shared by badnewsbeers. Deep opaque brown/black body, thin ring of light brown carbonation. Big nose with rum pudding and lots of chocolate and coffee, with buttery oak, bourbon, and alcohol a tad later. Thick, inky body, big oak, with chocolate, coffee bean, and molasses; roasty and tannic, forward and a tad bitter. Rough syrupy finish with some soy. Very good.

750 ml bottle served in a CCB snifter. A: Pours an opaque black color with a dark tan head forming on the pour. It recedes to a thin film that some splotches of lace down the glass. S: Lots of dark fruit flavors, mainly the raisin, with a little bit of rum sweetness. Some oak barrel with a little milk chocolate and roasted malts. T: Same as the nose, but much more oak and itís tough to pick out the rum flavors. Light bready malts mix with roasted malt notes. Slight spice. M: Medium to heavy bodied. Lower carbonation than I would have liked. O: Iím just not a fan of beers aged in rum barrels. I feel like it doesnít pick up enough of the spirit flavors and the actually barrel itself takes over the flavor. Definitely solid, but nothing worth going out of your way for. Serving type: bottle

Pours a thick, dark black, almost like used motor oil. Small, tannish-purple head. Complex aroma: thereís some fruit, some smoke, almost a touch of wood (cedar?). Flavor is very sweet, a bit on the boozy side, with some coffee, some chocolate, some dark fruit (prune? plum?), just a hint of the cinnamon, and the raisins detectable in the finish. Slightly oily on the tongue, with just a slight bitterness to the finish.

Bottle and served in my Stone IRS snifter (and yes a bottle I did NOT get from Eric Starnes) : Pours basically opaque with a small creamy tan head, oily viscous legs and some lacework. The aroma has extremely heavy vapours of dark fruits (prune, plum , black cherry, fig) with luscious rum barrel character. What I like is I still get lots of the base beer character of milk chocolate, roast, char, tobacco, leather, tar and herbal hops. The taste is not quite the level of the nose with the heavy fruit, earthiness and barrel fighting off some oncoming souríd twang. Sweet but never cloy, boozy but never over the top, woody but not tannic. Mikey Likey this a lot... Hopscotch why didnít I get this from you ;-)

#2500. Bottle from Jason, thanks! Black with a tiny, fading brown top. Scent is wood, dark fruit and soy. Taste is dark chocolate, dark fruit, wood and rum. Very good!

Bottle shared by mattyb83, pours a very dark brown/black with an amber hue and a thin reddish tan head. Aroma of chocolate, dark fruits, vanilla, spicy booze, and roasted malts. Taste of chocolate, raisin, bitter coffee, tobaccoo, and rum. A nice Imperial Stout!

750 ml bottle - pours pitch black with a medium head, very tiny bubble, with the colour of a caramel flan. Boozy aroma of dark chocolate, vanilla, coffee, roasted malts. Huge body with booze from beginning to end, aroma of rum soked raisins and dark chocolate.

Bottle. Pours a dark inky black/brown color with a mocha tan head that collars around the glass. Big notes in the nose of dark fruit; dark cherry, raisin, and plum. The rum shows as well but pretty minimal. Heavy mouthfeel. Dark roast, molasses, and fruit notes all combine in this one. Decently balanced but a little dark fruit overboard for me. Overall, glad I tried it but I didnít go back for a second pour.

Bottle shared by Thorpe429. Thanks Mike! The beer appears pitch black with a thick, beige head. Another outstanding appearance from a Cigar City stout. The aroma is of rich, dense, roasted malt. The raisins really shine in the flavor. Oak and rum play secondary roles, while roasted malt takes center stage. Mostly well balanced, though roast emerges more than other aspects. Overall, another solid stout from Cigar City. Recommended. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 10-02-2011
