Bottle shared by Thorpe429. Thanks Mike! The beer appears pitch black with a thick, beige head. Another outstanding appearance from a Cigar City stout. The aroma is of rich, dense, roasted malt. The raisins really shine in the flavor. Oak and rum play secondary roles, while roasted malt takes center stage. Mostly well balanced, though roast emerges more than other aspects. Overall, another solid stout from Cigar City. Recommended. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 10-02-2011

750mL bottle, pours jet black with a light brown / tan head. Aroma is intense with sweet caramel malts, rum, and lots of boozy liqueur. Flavour is intense, full of rum, caramel malts, some slight licorice, and dark fruits (raisins). Full-bodied and complex, without any harsh notes. Boozy, but not distastefully. Very complex imperial stout.

750ml bottle.
Appearance : Pitch black with very small head.
Aroma : Big sweet roasted caramel. Light soy sauce, light oxidation.
Taste : Ashy with sweet roasted malt. Caramel. Finish ashy with notes of spices and raisins. Nice woody smoke.
Palate : Rich, slick and thick.
Overall : Way too sticky and sweet. Almost hard to chug. Nice flavors but too sweet. Nice woody smoke, nice ashy notes as well. Interesting but too sweet, too bold and overdone... again.

Bottled. Pours opague black with a smalle tan head. Nose of roasted malt, chocolate and dark fruit notes. Sweet flavor of chocolate, raisins, toasted malt and caramel + rum notes. Full bodied, oily texture and soft carbonation. Ends up with some bitterness and alcohol notes. An excellent imp. stout.

Bottle through trade. Pour has a black color and a ring of tan head on the glass and a still look. Aroma has huge roasted malt, raisin, barrel wood, light rum, and dark fruit. Mouth feel is heavy and coating but the carbonation is very light making this feel thicker. Flavor is big on the malt, roast, raisin, figs, light rum, mild wood, oily, some chocolate, and a lingering finish. It gets a bit thick and tars the tongue a bit, carbonation could have helped this a lot.

Bottle:   Pitch black pour, little head, little lacing.   Has an oily cola like appearance on the glass as I swirl it.   This one is gonna be heavy!   Nose of raisins and other associated dark pitted fruit.   Light alcohol, a little sweet fig pudding as well.   Heat right up front, roasty, smooth, heavy malts, with some subtle hints of Rum on the tongue.   Low hop aspect overall.   Lots of graham cracker on this one too.   Cinnamon doesn’t really make an appearance, at least to me.   Body and mouthfeel are smooth, moderate to full.   A little warming on the backside, slightly astringent (green), with graham cracker, alcohol infused raisins (or dates), and a touch of Rum.   I expected this one to be more Rum like, less heat, and a bit sweeter.   I think maybe if you have one of these, sit on it a while longer so that it can mellow a bit.   Good as is, even if a little bruising.   Thanks for the rare treat Jason!

A-- Poured black. Want to say motor oil black but just a shade lighter. One finger dark brown head that finally settled into a dark brown collar through drinking. Really nice and thick looking beer. Just a bit of spotty lacing and a typical CCB dark oily substance on the sides of the glass. S-- Dark fruits. Lots of them. Prune and Dark cherry mostly. Lots of chocolate fudge and hints of vanilla from the barrel. No notes of rum at all. T-- Spicy hops on the gums and then a lot of prunes. Touches of spices and light oak and vanilla from the barrel. M-- The Mikkeller influence is in the feel. Lots of sweet char and ash in the mouth. Lot of charred ash and sweet burnt rubber in the mid palate. Well hidden ABV but feels bigger than 10%. tar and soy sauce in the mouth. Slick and oily finish. Low carbonation and heavy feel. O-- Outstanding beer. Good collaboration. Well crafted beer and though big and thick, a good solid sipper. Would love to revisit or see the two do another pairing again.
