From notes, guess I forgot to rate this a while back. Pours an opaque black from the bottle with pillowy tan head and good lacing. Aroma of dark and sweet chocolate, lactose sweetness, roasted malts, slight coffee. Taste follows, but more of the roasted and less of the dark chocolate, with a dry, dusty finish. Easy to drink considering the abv, the lactose hides the alcohol very well. I wish this wasn’t a limited release.

Bottle. Black, black pour with a large very dark tan head. Aroma is sharp fresh coffee with chocolate bitterness and dry cocoa roast. Taste is bitter and sharp coffee with chocolate , milkiness, and light hop bitterness. Mouthfeel is dry, precise, and clean. Excellent coffee heavy stout.

750mL bottle, purchased at Luekens Liquors. Pours an oily, pitch-black core with cola edges; dark-tan head beautifully formed, persistent. Restrained cocoa sweetness in the aroma, quite mild and well-integrated coffee character (I think that may be the most compelling part of this beer: an edge-less coffee addition), with additional rounding notes of vanilla and caramel. Lush. How do you even make a coffee addition like this? Flawless presentation in terms of texture: moderate acidity, medium-full body, modest fine-bubbled CO2, and a welcome jolt of bitterness from the specialty malts and coffee (along with a bit o’ pine and herbal hop character tucked in). Plush, velvety chocolate, coffee, and a touch of woody tannins along with auxiliary notes of vanilla, caramel, and maple syrup (or is that just the maple veneers talking?). No discernable alcohol, intensely drinkable... F**k. What do you dock a beer like this for?

The complete absence of light in this one...literally a black hole with a latte head. Hadn’t seen a stout as dark as this since Hunahpu...not sure how they do it but there aren’t many that compare. Baker’s chocolate, brownie batter, lactic qualities, cocoa, and molasses. A little chalkie...dry...but flavorful.

750 ml bottle via trade with an STL guy- thanks, Kevin! Pours a deep, just about black, opaque brown with a small tan head that leaves a light layer of lace. Gritty aroma; lactose, ground coffee, vanilla beans, chocolate, dust, and cream. A little withdrawn but improves as it nears room temperature. The flavor improves upon it, with the coffee and roasted malts really popping, complemented by notes of vanilla, milk chocolate, mollasses, and maple. Light-medium bodied, with a smooth mouthfeel that coats the palate on the way out and leaves a sticky, sweet aftertaste. Low carbonation. Very good sweet stout from Cigar City.

Motor oil pour, awesome! Brown head bubbles up big, but dissipates to the edges quickly. Green pepper up front on the nose, roasted malt, coffee, vanilla bean, and bitter sweet chocolate drown the green. Flavor follow through with the addition of the maple wood. Swirled the last sip and brown oil stuck to the glass, love it.

Oct 25, 2012 edition Bottle to Stone IRS tulip. I actually said "wow" as I poured this. It’s much thicker than I thought with a consistency reminiscent of used motor oil. Not much head and no visible carbonation with a swirl, the liquid briefly stains the glass similarly (but not as heavily) as Marshal Z. Big coffee and potting soil aroma. Again, wow. Very flavorful. Strong brewed coffee, dark chocolate syrup, and bourbon vanilla extract. Pretty clean finish except for a little lingering coffee bitterness, vanilla essence, and a touch of oxidation.

Big dark pour, brown head. Aroma hits with vanilla and coffee and really nice chocolate notes. The flavor is so smooth and really wonderful. Loads of coffee and vanilla. Light roast notes, more chocolate on the finish. Wow, great beer. Drink it now, I cannot imagine aging this will do much to help.

Beware. You must really like coffee if you are going to enjoy this beer. Still some descent hits of chocolate and smaller hint of vanilla. A little better than ok.
