3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Appearance: black, oily, liquid obsidian. Crema hued head fades into a thin collar.
Nose: oily black viscosity. Roasted, tarry, and massive amounts of black licorice and anise. Dense black cake and charred dried prunes and figs. Oily peat in the back Ė Lagavulin comes to mind. Acrid bits in the middle Ė burnt and tannic.
Palate: big middle and finish, light in the front. Dry burnt smoky ashen finish. Oily viscous mouthfeel. Cigar leaf and cigars, slowly smoldering, trails of smoke wafting lazily up into the air. Dried prunes with pits. Peppery Ė like a peppercorn rub. Dried ancho chili peppers. Old leather.
Final Thoughts: quite intriguing. This was the second of 4 tasters I savored at the Cigar City Tasting room with my Love. The atmosphere was as perfect as the beers. Delicious! I was expecting a bit more of a different beer from the original Marshall Zhukov, which there wasnít, but I wasnít disappointed either. If anything, a bit rough around the edges which could benefit from a bit of smoothing out.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
9/27/11. Growler thanks to Adam! Pitch black pour with a thick brown head. Aroma of smoke, char, and coffee, but thereís also an astringent/medicinal aspect as well. Sweet malty flavor at first with plenty of char and ash, a bit of tartness, and a touch of medicine as well.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
32 ounce growler, poured jet black with very little head. Aromas of chocolate, roasted malt, cloves, citrus, and some coffee. Very unique taste, lots of bitter coffee, touch of citrus, and campfire ash. Light on the palate, not as sludgy as the normal treatment, interesting experience.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
32oz growler as a kick-ass "extra" from beerlando. thanks, bryan! pours a deep black, not quite as thick as the other Zhukov treatments, with a razor thin, rusted brown head that leaves a light ring of bubbles around the edges and no lacing.aroma is great, crazy different, with huge roasted malts, char, and fresh licorice backed by herbal chocolate, orange zest, and light, fruity coffee with subtle notes of yeast and cloves. flavor is excellent, honestly a bit surprised i enjoyed it so much, with heavy roasted malts, very bitter, spent coffee beans, and dry, cacao chocolate backed by campfire ash, smoked nuts, and herbal saison yeast. palate is, as expected for 2nd runnings, a bit thinner than other Zhukov treatments with light carbonation and a dry, roasted, herbal finish.
overall, althought itís my least favorite Zhukov itís still a damn nice, very unique brew.
