Bottle. Jai Alai with unsweetened papaya added post fermentation. I have had the pleasure of trying a good bit of Cigar City’s fruit IPA’s in the last month including peach IPA, Guava IPA, and Kumquat Orange IPA. None of these let me down so I had big expectations going into the Papaya offering. Pours a glowing orange with lively carbonation, great lacing, and a small head. Aromas of butter, white oak, ground papaya seeds, pineapple, english cheddar. Taste is a fruitier, creamier Jai Alai. Flavors of lemon, papaya, fresh hops. Closes with a slight bitterness from the hops. Overall, this was a great refreshing IPA from CC, if you have a chance to try it, don’t hesitate.

Papaya IPA is basically their Jai Alai IPA brewed with a healthy dose of Papaya. I have a feeling that if you like Jai Alai, you’ll love this brew.
Papaya IPA pours a dark amber color with a big fluffy two finger head. Great retention and minimal lacing.
Right off the bat I noticed a more fruity aroma then it’s base beer. The Papaya is doing it’s thing and it’s lovely. Citrus and floral hops combine with a rich malty backbone here. The fruit is the star here though. It’s juicy and fresh.
Wow I really ended up loving this beer in the end. The juiciness of the fruits take center stage. Papaya, citrus, and other tropical fruits. Just deep and rich. The caramel malt keeps the brew balanced.
Mouthfeel is smooth, medium bodied, and rich. Fruity and juicy.

Entering old rates. Draft @ CCB.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 5000 (4104) - Hardened Liver, Washington, USA - NOV 6, 2011
Bottle:   Dirty amber, fairy hazy, still a little fiery, large frothy off-white head, nice lacing.   Candied Papaya and wet hops on the nose.   Fairly assertive Papaya up front.   This IPA provides some bitterness, but its not overly done, and the malt backing and sweetness lends itself well to this one.   More malty than most IPAs, which is okay.   Has a dull fruity sweetness in the finish, not as bright as the start.   Lingering dull candied citrus and papaya on the tongue.   Definitely different, but not too bright.   Its a malt sided IPA, which isnt that common.   Throw in some bright floral notes and then we would really have something.   As is its pretty interesting and tasty tho.

As everyone else has said, very similar the the regular Jai Alai but with a touch sweeter body and smoothed out a bit. But still tons of bitter citrus hops and not so much papaya. Still a very good beer.
