3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Growler shared by Cam (notes 2011). Pours a hazy golden color with a small white head. The aroma and flavor have lemony citrus, herbal, salt, light tart, just a different style for me.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Appearance: cloudy lemon and straw. Little to no head and a minute bubbly collar.
Nose: salted glass rim and lemon with funk in the back. Salt licks and hay stacks. Tart green apples. Heavily oaked chardonnay. Salt is pervasive without overpowering – comes close though. Granny Smith apple orchard musk and pomace.
Palate: medium-light with muted Berliner-Weisse tendencies. Thin lemon juice. Salt comes in last – licking a salt lick with water. Musk, funk, horse, and saddlebags in the breath. Raw plantains.
Final Thoughts: intriguing to say the least. I liked the funk and the sour but I never was able to come to a conclusion on the salt. I’d like to try some more Gose though; an intriguing historical style which has pretty much died…but not quite yet.

Growler courtesy of hopscotch. Pours a milky yellow with a thin head that quickly disappears leaving no lacing. Aroma is wonderful tart funk, with a nice lemon character. Flavor is a little tart, with an unpleasant medicinal character. Thin, watery body

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Poured at Cigar City, a hazy yellow with a arommas of sour funky and smoke. Tastes like a tart saltwater drink with a touch of fruit. Had a salty aftertaste that made you want to drink again. Interesting beer, and very sessionable.

2.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 1/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
Light pour not much head kinda hazy. Smell is moldy seaweed and Roasty malt. Taste is kinda like miso except not as much body minus the tofu but still with the salty seaweed.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
9/24/11. Growler courtesy Adam! Hazy yellow pour with a frothy khaki head that fades. Aroma of bacon, salt, and a slight undertone of sweetness. Sweet entry, followed by a dose of salt, slight smokey woodiness, and bacon. Weird, interesting... glad to try it.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Review from notes at Cigar City’s taproom on 9/9/11 for Firkin Friday.
Draft poured into a CCB pint glass.
Appearance: Poured a cloudy yellow-gold with a 1/2 finger white head. Decent lacing.
Smell: Sour notes with a touch of smoke.
Taste: Sour, funky fruitiness up front followed by saltwater in the middle before ending with a dry sour finish. Smoky and salty aftertaste.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied with a decent amount of carbonation.
Drinkability: Decent drinkability. Not a style I’d drink a ton of, but it’s good enough to drink a couple.
Overall: Good beer overall. This is my first gose and I enjoyed it. I like that CCB really goes out and experiments with more obscure beer styles. Worth a shot.
