COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Dark in color with a ruby hue with forward notes of chocolate and caramel and light toffee notes in the aroma. Flavor has big notes of bittersweet chocolate with notes of caramel and toffee and moderate hop bitterness and more caramel and toffee and slight hints of char. A big take on a classic style.

Opaque mohagany, thin beige head, creamy full body, medium carbonation.

Aroma: semi-sweet chocolate, stale coffee, bready fruity yeast esters.

Taste: semi-sweet chocolate, dark roasted malt, stale coffee, musty yeast esters, and a hint of charred malt.

Perfect baltic porter! Great complex malt flavors. Balanced, but malt focused. Full and flavorful with a lot of dark malt character, but not the charr or astringency of RIS.

Had on nitro at the Brewery. Pours dark with a nice full head. Aroma is of a standard chocolate porter. Tastes great, very smooth.

Pours pitch black with a large tan head. Smells chocolatey with a hint of roast. Taste is chocolate with roast and a hint of coffee. Medium-bodied with smooth texture and soft mouth-carbonation, Cigar City Puppy’s Breath Robust Porter finishes with a lingering chocolate note.

can. pours black with a 1/4" off white head. chocolate, coffee and roasted dark malt aromas. med to full body with deep caramel, coffee, chocolate, dark fruits, burnt coffee, toffee and roasted malt flavors - many layers - complex porter. round mouthfeel with a nice bitterness. crisp finish with the hop bitterness coming through more along with the supporting roast. excellent porter - one of the best I’ve ever had for sure.

Great balance of malt and roast, not overly assertive, crisp and semi-sweet finish.

I was apprehensive at first, due to the name, but up for a unique flavor. The story written on the can about puppies’ breath didn’t assuage my apprehension. They’re really going for a puppy’s breath. As I think about it, I bet that they were tasting this beer after a few beers, and someone jokingly said that it tasted like a puppy’s breath, so they went with it. Another reason to love Cigar City. Pours dark and rich, thin but tenacious head - perfect head for this beer. Taste is malty, cocoa, and caramel. Hops are mild and balanced. Slightly sweeter than what I’d typically drink, but they did it right.

I had the pleasure of experiencing Puppy’s Breath Porter on tap at Cigar City Brewing on the ninth day of September, 2010. Served in a shaker glass, notes of tart dark fruit, roastiness, leather and a subtle charming sweetness emanated. Holding the glass up to the light quickly illustrated the impenetrability of the dark roasted hue and exhibited a deep brown nature, slightly lighter than your average Pepsi. A short beige head followed the serving all the way to the end, leaving a thick coating of lacing behind. The body was thick and characteristic of the style. Couple that with the gentle sweetness, bitter finish and spot on light carbonation, Puppy’s Breath Porter made for a truly inspiring experience. Delicious, nutritious, auspicious, and a few other positive adjectives that end in –ious. Cheers!

Growler thanks to 50belair. A dark brown almost black beer with a good head. The aroma is nice with dark fruits, cola, roast, coffee, and chocolate. A very nice aroma. The taste is very nice also with some chocolate malt and almost like roasted coffee, and some smoke. Damn this is an outstanding porter. i really enjoyed this down to the last drop and may be the best porter I’ve ever had.

On tap 07/09/11 @ the Lucky Pelican Bistro & Fish Market in Sarasota, Fl. Pours a coffee black with a medium tan head that leaves excellent lacing. Chocolate aroma has hints of cocoa and coffee. Rich malty flavor has hints of roasted coffee and chocolate that has a smooth and creamy mouthfeel leading into a dry cocoa finish. Very delicious and WOW! I was glad I hit happy hour for 2 for 1.

Review from notes at World of Beer - Fort Myers on 9/29/11. Poured on draft into a snifter. Appearance: Pours a cola brown, almost black, with a 1 finger creamy light tan head. Excellent lacing. Smell: Sweet and roasted malt with a touch of chocolate. Taste: Fruity bitterness and roasted malt up front followed by chocolate in the middle before ending with hoppy bitterness and sweet malt at the finish. Aftertaste is bittersweet. Definitive CCB flavor comes through. Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied with a decent amount of carbonation. Drinkability: Very good drinkability. The elevated ABV% would keep you from drinking multiples, but the flavor is very good. Overall: Very good beer overall. This isn’t your typical porter, so it’s more closely related to an imperial stout. Definitely try this one if you get the chance.
