The Tocobaga lived off the bounty of Tampa Bay hundreds of years before the arrival of the Spanish in the 1500ís. They were potters, tool makers and the only Florida natives to grow maize. The large platform mounds they built are still with us today, with one of the largest found near Old Tampa Bay in Safety Harbor, Florida. Climb to the top, and with a little imagination, you can see Tampa Bay as they did. Graphic design by Eric Swanson. Recipe by Tim Ogden.

Solid hopped up red ale. rich, robust, and tasty. This is what a big, bold red ale should be. A little thick, and over hopped for the true style, but this is an Arrogant Bastard slayer.

The hazy reddish orange brew sits nicely in my Cigar City snifter with a nice sized white head on top. It slowly disappears into the liquid and leaves a slight bit of lacing around the glass. The nose bursts with citrus like hops. A lot of grapefruit and orange in there. Quite a moderate amount of malts in the nose as well. Not much different in the taste. The hops come at you first. They are slightly earthy along with the citrus notes. Iíd say there is even some tropical fruit tastes in there as well. This has become common in their hoppy beers. A caramel malt backing is present and gives some balance to things. But the hops are first and foremost.

Bottle @ Early Winter Tasting, Odense, 2011. Pours ruby copper with a creamy head and lacings. Peach and grapefruit. Sweet caramel. Sticky. Really dry and hoppy end.

Hazy red amber with a small off-white head. Sweet caramel and juicy citrus hop aroma. Sweetish caramel and biscuit flavour with citrus hops and a good bitterness

This one was probably a bit past its prime. The hops were very muted but still retained some fruity spicyness. The overall beer seemed a bit more malt aggressive then I had anticipated. Not bad though.

Draught @ the brewery. Pours a hazy light brown with a small off-white head. Aromas of citrus and pine. The hops really come out in this one with a really nice roasty malt backbone; perfect balance. I wish I could get this in Illinois!!!

750 ml pours a brown/amber color with a medium white head. Aroma of sweet roasted malt with light floral hop. Evenly balanced beer, a real good amber.
