The Tocobaga lived off the bounty of Tampa Bay hundreds of years before the arrival of the Spanish in the 1500’s. They were potters, tool makers and the only Florida natives to grow maize. The large platform mounds they built are still with us today, with one of the largest found near Old Tampa Bay in Safety Harbor, Florida. Climb to the top, and with a little imagination, you can see Tampa Bay as they did. Graphic design by Eric Swanson. Recipe by Tim Ogden.

Bottle from tuba boy, drowland. Thanks! Pours a deep amber with a nose of hoppy rose, light tobacco wrapper, biscuit, and orange peel. Flavor is hoppy grapefruit biscuit with a light orange marmalade. Average mouthfeel. I normally dislike "red" ales, but this is tasty. No denying it. Even after spending two days in my truck in the heat. Wow. I can only imagine what a fresh one tastes like.

Bottle as a recent extra. Pour has a dark amber/red color and a thin covering of off white head. Aroma has sweet malt, bitter pine hops, and some light citrus. Mouth feel is medium light and there is average carbonation. Flavor has bitter hops, some resins, malt, a bit of citrus, and some heat explained by the 7.4%.

Pours a murky copper color on tap with great, frothy tan head with great lacing. Aroma of roasted malts, caramel, and a slight piney hop. Taste is awesome, all of the aroma but perfectly well balanced. One of the best cigar city beers.

2011 bottle thanks to errl. Deep amber pour with a nice cream head. Nose is heavy toffee, caramel, hops, chewy, and sticky. Not as thick as the nose led me to think, rich malts, dough, toffee, caramel, light hop kick in the finish.

Grapefruit and Citrusy aroma with a nice malty sweetness that finishes like a pine Tree. This is a great friggin red. A charismatic beer that is a beautiful and I surely like to snuggle up with next to a warm fire on a cold night or float in a pool with some little arm floated drinkin this on a hot Gulf Coast summer day. Versatile little badass beer.

Bottle. Moderate to heavy roasted grain and caramel for the malt, light to moderate pine for the hops and soap for the yeast, with notes of date, wood and pepper. Head is average to large, frothy, off-white with fair lacing and is mostly lasting. Color is hazy mahogany. Flavor is lightly sweet and moderately acidic to start, then finishes moderately acidic and bitter. Palate is on the fuller side of medium, slippery in texture and has a lively carbonation. A very nicely made Amber Ale that’s somewhere between being bold and easy drinking.
